View Full Version : Kazaa and Ares won't connect
Just installed Kazaalite (v2.41) and the lastest version of Ares on a friends PC, (both installed and run OK) but neither wants to connect - they just sit there saying "connecting".
I have used both these applns on other PCs and they work fine - what's going on.
The PC is P4, 2.7 GHz, 512 meg RAM with Win XP SP2. Norton Internet and AV are installed but (I'm pretty sure) I properly opened up both Norton and Win XP firewalls to let Kazaa and Ares through. I even tried disabling the firewalls for a while but this didn't help.
Thanks for any ideas on what I can try to get these applns connected.

I was about to reinstall Kazaa Lite but wasn't sure if there are cleaner versions then others. Where can I get the least invasive? I.e. no spy yet decent performance.
Kazaa is very bad for your system, there are better solutions. the best being torrents, if not there is limewire, i like it its a little hogginsh on the system but no issues with it so far

Yah , I agree.Stay away from kazaa of any form.Bitorrent or limewire would be my best suggestion also.
Thanks for the feedback. I agree bittorent is far better but may be a bit too complcated for my friend. You can get a lot of garbage from Kazaa but I found Kazaalite (++?) to be OK.
I can try Limewire but just as I'm seeing with Ares, I suspect I may have problems getting them to connect!
Any ideas on how I can get Ares (and prospectively Limewire) to connect???

Kazaa lite will crap out on you too! Take our advice and DUMP KAZAA!!!!
I also suggest Lime Wire. We were using bear share for a while but we lost it when we had to format the comp. Then we started to use Limewire
Try downloading limewire and post back!
Good Luck!

people still use Kazaa?
The fake mp3's and improperly named files I figured was such a turn off that people would start getting the hint.

Do you have norton security...that causes those problems all the time.
A router problem maybe? Hard to say what is the problem.Good luck with it.
Forgot some stuff...
Dont try this unless someone can actually confirm this works...
i'd hate to see you wreck your computer.....but I was reading a few things here...
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/134256
They mention a few things to try....one was to dl something here...

Or check the settings as mentioned.I do recall at one point I had to dl a small file to let bittorrent run properly after installing sp2.
Or you can search through all this yourself here...http://ca.search.yahoo.com/search?fr=rogers-web&tab=&p=kazaa+wont+connect&btn=Search
