Do you leave your pc on all the time of off? What's better for your components?

None of the above.

I shut it down at night - generally runs 4 to 10 hours per day.

I leave mine running....I would suggest running your secreen saver or turning off your monitor though.

several reasons.

1. It won't eat up your cmos as much
2. I have my anti-virus scan and update in the wee hours of the morning:rah:
3. It won't hurt it to run.....

4. If you use dial up I would suggest unplugging your comp from the phone jack....if your affraid of dial-hijack viruses

A coin cell battery every five years costs less than the additional energy required to run a system full time. ;)

All the computers, on all the time. Full virus scans, defrags, and other auto-diagnostics, run between 1 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. Monitors are turned off at night.

I only have laptops and they go into hibernation mode when I'm not using them, So off... saves the screen and just to be safe :)

24/7...use over nite to do defrags and such (monthly of course not every nite) also less wear on the hard ware shutdowning the computer and rebooting it everyday, its better to leave it on in my opinion

Ok now is it really harder on the unit to shut it off or leave it run. Experts please!

Both turned off at night, if we're at home then my wife's computer is usually on. My computer is usually off unless I'm infront of it. It sounds like a tornado so I'd never be able to sleep with it on!!!

I have mine on from the time I get home from work till I go to bed. Roughly six hours a day. Turn them off at night. To keep them on 24 hours a day would be wasting electricity and running up the bill for nothing.

I don't have a hydro bill, ha. Have always kept my computers on 24/7.

It's still a waste of electricity:gaa:

actually. to be honest. the computer on 24/7 takes up so little electricity. a single hair dryer for 1hour is the equivelent (sp?) to 24/7 computer. (not much at all)

A computer idling draws 60-200W.

100W full time = 876KWh/year @ approx. 6 cents kWh = $52.56/year. Is that insignificant?

In comparison, the typical Canadian home with 5 occupants draws 1000kWh/month including everything.
