on canada day i was doing routine maintenance which includes cleaning out the prefetch file ,i opened the prefetch file at that point i was distracted by the baseball and did something because next i looked the prefetch file was gone and in its place was "new ritch text something. so i deleted that and since then when i open prefetch the files inside dont show ,please help me resolve this.

There is no "routine maintenance...cleaning out the prefetch file". The files in the Prefetch Directory in WinXP are used to speed up loading of commonly used applications and files. The directory continually readjusts the prefetch files to reflect your usage habits. Best to leave it alone to do its thing.
To resolve your problem...do nothing. The files will return on their own.

As woodpusher mention, it will adjust itself.

Bolla, you may want to use a utility in the future that allows for backup befor changes. I use www.CCleaner.com and find it a great maintenance utiliy.

Maybe part of the answer is to concentrate on one thing at a time.

Re-prefetch; it is probably a good idea to clear it out from time to time as sugested in the link provided above, particularly when you have removed programs, since there is no point trying to 'prefetch' what you don't have!
