I just registered a website name at www.webcentre.ca for a new website.
Do I have to pay to have my website hosted there? Or could I upload it somewhere else?
If I can upload it somewhere else, how do I get the site to work correctly so when you go to the website all the files are there to have the site load correctly?

you can upload it somewhere else.

And you change the name servers from the webcentre.ca to the ones of your host.
Or just have a re-direct.

Braddon, don't know who you are.. I'm assuming you're one of my clients, but thank you for the nice comments.
JHorton,
If you've registered a domain name with webcentre, if you wish you host your website else (with another web hosting company) you simply change the nameservers on your domain name. You will be provided with 2 or more nameserver listings from your hosting company to add to your domain name.
For example, we provide ns1.8inet.com and ns2.8inet.com as our domani names. Our clients go to their registrar (company who registered their domain names) and adds these 2 nameservers to their domain names. It takes about 48 hours for these additions to be recognized by all the ISPs around the world.

Welcome to TCM JHorton!
I am also a web hosting provider (providing Windows Based web hosting services),
When registering a domain name, it provides you a namespace on the Internet. You will then have to purchase web hosting (webspace) with either the domain registrar or any third party such as a web hosting provider.
Domain names need to point to what are known as Domain Name Servers (DNS), these servers tell the domain where to look when someone requests your web site. As Aingaran mentioned, DNS typically come in pairs or more. This is to ensure that if one of the DNS servers crash/go down, the other will still be able to work.
DNS for your domain name can be changed to point anywhere (currently they are pointing to your registrar at ns1./ns2./ns3.meganameservers.com). DNS updates for a new domain that has not been accessed before can be update in real-time ( no need to wait 48 hours ). Other domains at have been registered before or have been accessed before will require up to 48-72 hour wait for all updates to be visible around the world.
If you require Window web hosting services please let me know as I am offering TCM member a discounted price not reflected on our website. You can email be at tcmATwebpromo-inc.com

As for the DNS update, we will handle the entire name server changes for you when you sign up. We take the hassle out of moving your domain(s) from one provider to another.
