I have Nero on my father's PC and he has a CD burner (good old Plextor 24x). On my PC I have my LG 4163B and I installed the NERO Express that came with it. I find that it blows chunks. Locks up. Doesn't respond. Just generally sucks arse.
What is the best version of Nero that I can use in place of this lame "express" version that came on the CD rom with the LG dvd burner?
I want to burn a nice ISO IMAGE file so I can upgrade a dvd player of mine.
thanx,
:)

I currently use Nero 7 Ultra Edition. Works pretty well for bruning ISO's, data and music disks.
Had some problems with some video files to make DVD's but other than that great software.
In the past I was deadset against Nero. Used Roxio Easy CD Creator until I bought a new DVD drive and the Nero software came with it. Since then I'm with Nero.
I usually burn ISO's with DVDDecrypter. Small and loads quick and never let me down.

So it is worth buying? Where is it cheapest?
Can I burn iso images for CDR/W with DVDdecrypter?

If you have the oem installed, open up StartSmart and click on the flame icon in the bottom right hand corner. Your serial number will be there and there will be an icon to click for upgrade. I think it's about $55 US right now for the upgrade from oem. That said, I bought version 7 after Christmas for $60, but haven't installed yet. I do really like 6, and hope 7 has the bugs worked out now with their updates.

Far enough, thanx. For now I used the other Nero burning rom I have on the other PC. Worked fine.

Express won't burn!
Is Nero 5 Burning rom ok? Or should I shell out for 6?

If you're burning DVDs, Nero 6.6 is highly recomended.

I don't know what is up with the oem software, but it says I have no burning rom. cheapo.
So where can I find Nero 6.6? Should I just go to the ahead/nero website? Its $80 USD for a downloadable serial number. Can I find it cheaper?
thanx,
:)

Why won't Nero 5 recognize my LG 4163B?

A 4163 is way newer than any update for Nero 5... that's why it doesn't know what it is.
Can you try uninstalling any and all burning software you have (or have had) on your system... a total clean up.
Get the clean up tools from Nero, and if you've had anything else like EZ-CD, get their clean up tools too... get every last trace of everything out of your system...
Then install the Nero Burning software that came with your burner
It should work fine... and if it doesn't it's usually a conflict with something else on your system.
The OEM software is just a 'lite' version of the full software, so if you're having trouble with it; you're going to have trouble with the full version too.
Oh, and when you're installing it, DON'T install IN-CD... ;)

I tried the oem stuff and it just didn't seem to have the ability to burn.
I may try Ashampoo Burning Studio 6 trial and if that works, decide between that and Nero 6.

I am using the Ashampoo trial. Its ok, but no mention of "booktype"....as in setting the booktype to "dvd-rom".

You're right about that Dr.Dan. I cannot believe that Nero cannot improve IN-CD. It is so limited in what it can do that's basically useless.

I may try Nero 6.6 but no InCD or anything.

Does Nero 6.6 allow booktype bitsetting to DVD ROM for DVD +R DL? My LG 4163B supports it for +R DL.
Any advice as to where I can buy Nero 6.6? Basically the best version of Nero that isn't the less popular "bloated" Ultra 7 version. I want to be sure I can do booktype bitsetting to dvd rom for DVD +R DL.
thanx

Try dvd decrypter...if you can find a copy(it was free before). It simply burns so many formats(ISO, IMG, NRG, CDI, BIN, MDF) while nero can handle certain formats(NRG,ISO, BIN).
