Latest update on computer problems - had a bent pin on slave port on motherboard, rebent it so cable fits in and does fall out. All drives are now recognized, but I can't check if DMA is enabled/working or not. This is what I have tried, any other suggestions would be very helpful. I tried to burn an vid file from hd and it took 3 hours. Not sure if Nero had to convert the file to dvd again or why it took 3 hours, but thought I better make sure DMA is working before I try burn another file.

1) Checked Bios and it is enabled in Bios (DMA 2) for both burner Benq 1640 and Plextor cd burner

2) OS is XP Pro. When I go to My computer -> Properties -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers all it says is ALI Ultra IDE Controllers. It does not list Primary/Secondary IDE Channels. Since it is not there, I can not check or uninstall it, reboot, then re-install

3) Same thing when I use Nero Info Tool -> Configuration. Under adapter, only Auto run is there nothing else.

4) Re-installed chipset driver (Motherboard is old - Asus A7A 266 so chipset hasn't been updated in a long time, but last version was re-installed) and no change.

5) Pretty sure it used to be there. I will try another cable.

Currently Googling, but any advice would be helpful.

Thanks.

Just tried a registry edit fix: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

and deleting MasterIdDataChecksum in 001, and SlaveIdDataChecksum in 002, REBOOTED, and no changed. Value hasn't come back, but dvd drive still reads. No Change in either 2) or 3).

the cable may not be making proper connection.
you could replace cable but there could be pin damage.
you should only need to set the bios to auto.
depending on the file nero can take the time you
mentioned to convert and burn to dvd.

“had a bent pin on slave port on motherboard, rebent it so cable fits in and does fall out” If there isn’t a way to secure that loose pin… I think the motherboard is toast. :mad:

I think the motherboard is toast. I agree soldering those pins is next
to impossible.
you cold get a pci ide controller card.
