Sony will push back the release of its new PlayStation 3 video game console until early November because development of the copy-protection technology for the Blu-ray Disc has fallen behind schedule, the Japan-based Nikkei Keizai business daily said Tuesday.

I'm not sure if the screenshots I saw are of the ones you're talking about, but they weren't that great. ... OK - they were horrible.
It's either a) far from completion, b) a joke, c) bad artists
The PS3 should be (and probably is) capable of doing alot more than that.

Wow, so this thing isn't even gonna be in N.America until 2007 unless they are planning a worldwide launch. Atleast now we know how much longer to save for. Though I still think most people will need a to take a loan out to afford this thing.

It should be, but Sony loses major points for showing off the CG render of Killzone 2 and saying it was actual in ga me footage. Then loses more points for doing the same for Metal gear 4.
I would expect the first games to look like Untold legends , i have no problem with that if its fun but they were pushing that the graphics right off the bat were going to be phenominal.
If sony didnt hype themselves up as much as they do then maybe i would have respect for them.

This might be a little off-topic but I was reading an article about ps3 and came across this picture. Now I havn't seen many pics of the ps3 beside a person but in the pic below it looks huge. Maybe the angle the pic was taken on?

looks like a fancy cinder block.
Im just wondering if they could make that thing any uglier if they tried.
And yes it looks pretty big.
Also those are just cases with no guts in em since their hardware isnt even finalized yet.

What they fail to mention is that Sony is also still trying to get over the ruling against them with regards to "haptic technology (http://www.afterdawn.com/news/archive/7383.cfm)" that they had allegedly stolen from Immersion Corps., the original founders founders of "dual shock". This, and the fact that they still don't have a controller design set in stone makes me more suspicious of the November launch. The key thing about this article is the fact that because of the patent ruling against them, they may have to resort to changing the whole controller configuration for the PS3, or worse yet, dropping dual shock all together... OUCH!
I'm excited to see how the PS3 fares, and if all bodes well, will probably still get one for the Sony exclusive games, but I am not holding my breath in anticipation for the system (like i did for the 360). It will be interesting to see how their online service will compete with XboxLive.... From what I've read, it sounds too good to be true...
