Which of course means ultra is going to be going up.
Of course this wont happen for months yet and this on there website was a mistake...lol.
Sheesh some days you can't win.:gaa:
The upgrade hasn't been confirmed yet but if it was an error i'm betting it would has been corrected by now. Also, sooner or later it will happen as Quebec is undergoing upgrades right now.

Could you please explain the upgrade?
Could you please explain the upgrade?
In response to Rogers' upgrades from 3 megs to 5 megs (realistically 4.5 megs) Sympatico is also undergoing upgrades, right now Quebec is being upgraded to 5 megs and it looks like it's soon to follow in Ontario. However, keep in mind DSL is distance sensitive and a great deal of Sympatico customers may not be able to recieve this upgrade. In theory this is a good step but a good part of Rogers and Bell customers may not even notice or be able to recieve this upgrade at the moment.

It seems they're timing it to coincide with their price hike. Bell HSE will be going up $3/month in May so they are trying to convince people not to ditch them by increasing the speed.

$2/month actually and they don't even care because 90% of Sympatico customers won't notice/don't know there are other DSL providers.

The short while I had Bell I was very happy with them. Maybe it's time to sign-up for five months and then ditch them again.

Did some checking and its confirmed bell is going to be upgrading shortly both hse and ultra.
Hse first then ultra shortly after and its a good guess that ultra is going to be the same distance from hse that it was before.

I contacted my isp to find out if they had heard anything. He told me that he had not heard anything about Ontario yet.
Of course he might just not be telling me but who knows.
Hopefully it is true and they do it soon :)

The upgrade for hse has already happened for some so reset your modem to see if yours has changed.

Your source didn't happen to tell you if the system does it in some sort of order or if it's done randomly?

Yourwelcome :) Just a note, when I had sympatico here I had that model and it was a foot warmer caused alot of problems mostly with Disconnects =\yeah, i have the same problem (also speed problems as well) with the speedstream 5200. i suppose it could also be the fact that we live in a very old house. its was built before there was cable tv. the house didn't come with telephone and cable jacks, so we have telephone and cable tv lines all over the place. with drilled holes in the celings, floors, and walls for them to pass through. :mbx: :o

From what iam hearing hse goes to 5 ultra goes to 8 and commercial goes to 12.
Of course what speed you get depends on the area extra and so on

You're right, it's increasing by $2/month. I think this price increase will encourage those who are too far away from a central office to switch to Rogers since they won't see an increase in speeds.

Maybe maybe not since there doing the same.
I am on Bell HSE.
My through put was roughly 2700~ before

I guess that is their version of an upgrade for me

At one time I had 4. ;)

Probably not.
They just kept throwing them at me to cover-up for the shatty area network.
It's ok now, so natch they are raising the price.
NO, I still haven't got anything else. Yet.
so I guess I should call them and request for the newer modem

Yes its true Bell is going to upgrade all 3mb --> 5mb Connections but Only if your line can handle the speed. So if you have a bad line or to far away from the CO you wont get the upgrade.
Getting a new modem wont do much unless,
- You have a very old modem that is only capable of 1mb connection
- You currently have modem problems
So its up to you Dan but if u have a recent modem there wont really be much diff.
Ciao
well my speed did go up, but nothing close to 5mbit....gonna call them up tommorow before i goto school
my question is, why is the bell highspeed edition the same advertised speed as ultra, unless they have yet to update it?

my question is, why is the bell highspeed edition the same advertised speed as ultra, unless they have yet to update it?
Because right now, they just upgraded HSE to 5mb which they are upgrading everything in the next 6 weeks or so. From what I hear they will be upgrading Ultra also to something in the range of 7mb (from what I hear nothing for sure yet) but because they are busy with the HSE upgrade they will not be upgrading the Ultra people for probably a few more months.
So they do want to change the site because as soon as they do people will be calling in asking why their speed it not 7mb for example and just waste time.
Whats your current speed right now Dan? If ur still in school call my cell since i got an hour to burn untill my next class so we can meet up.

But I am on Bell Basic. I think I'll have to give Mr. Rogers a call. This building has some problems with DSL due to the telephone intercom system.

Unless you get at least a tier 2 rep at Bell, they are just customer service people reading off troubleshooting flowcharts. They know diddly squat :(
My Sympatico access died suddenly last night and I called them. He was going to walk me thought this and that, and I told him I wasn't going to do anything until he checked to see if the problem was at their end. At first he said no, then I asked him to check again. He put me on hold for about 20 minutes and then came back to tell me there was a problem in the 416 area code.
Hellooo?? :ntb:

LOLOLOL exactly, Level 1 techs just read off the screen, if you get higher people Level 2 and 3 they actually know what going on.
I remember calling for my friend once, he had a n OLD dsl modem could not get over 1mb because it was so slow. Anyways this was the time when we had just got our 3mb upgrades. SO i called for him told the tech support guy I needed a New modem to get the 3mb. He told me im wrong and all the Technology is the say and I would not see a difference.
Called again and talked to billing told them i needed a new modem they sent it out right away. Got it and right away got the 3mb with the new modem. I mean come on! At least their could hire some people who knew a little more BAH!

The worst part if if you tell them you're using software they "don't support" (i.e. ZoneAlarm). As soon as you tell 'em that, you're screwed in that you'll have to beg and plead to speak with a tier-2 rep because they won't help you anymore :ntb:

I've been with Bell for quite some time now and have been happy with their service but the last couple times I've had to call them it was a real pain. There was work being done in my area and I was experiencing slow speeds only at night (full speed throughout the day, half speed after 6-7 at night for about 4 days), I called just to figure out when the work would be complete. Talked to level 1 (what a waste) he kept telling me to turn this on, turn that off, he kept asking me whether I always clear my cache and files etc. Then went to level 2 (again this was an even bigger waste of time), every time the level 2 said that it was my fault and that I should reinstall all my drivers, my NIC card was broken, my computer was too slow etc. I knew work was being done and all I wanted to know was when it would be fixed, I didn't care that I had slow speed for a bit, and all I got was that it was my fault and that there was NO work being done on my line. After the 5th time calling finally got someone that told me that work was being done on my line for the past 5 days and should be done in the next day or so. One day later everything was fine. Was that really that hard to let people know that they may experience slow speeds for a bit while some repairs were being done??? I'm sure most people would apprreciate knowing instead of just suddenly getting a drop in speed!!!!
By the way no speed update on my line yet, still running around 2400 down.

LOL yup I dont understand why its Bells & Rogers fav thing to blame your computer saying its to Slow??
I remember when my sister had Rogers, thye came installed it and it was not wroking properly. They said it was because her laptop was to slow and because she was runing Win98SE. When she used to use my 3mb DSL at my house it was fine. But all of a sudden she got married moved into a new house and now her computer is to slow to handle high speed??
Dumb techs pissed me off so I had to bring my computer all the way up to her house tested it and had the same problem called them and they said oh well it says here that the computer is to slow, thats what another tech said. I told him I got a 2.8Ghz computer here your telling me this is to slow?? THen they sent out rogers to the house and fixed it. It ened up being that the guy who installed the cable running to the modem made it to Tight and the signal was not getting through properly.
Very nice Tech support :)

Yeah sickcars, if they say it is your fault there is less work for them to do right at the moment and you will hang up and try and fix it yourself.
This actually just happened last month to me. Yeah my system (in sig) isn't state of the art brand new but it should be fast enough for DSL!!!!
Couple things I didn't mention, one of the techs even wanted to modify my registry....yeah right. Like I'd let a tech advise me on how to do that.
Wife's computer is also hooked up to the internet, and as stated above the level 2 tech stated I should reinstall ALL my drivers. When I told him why the same thing would be happening to the 2nd computer he told me those drivers are probably all corrupt too!!!!!!!
Wasting my time my friend, just wasting my time!!!!
so i got off the phone after 30min of talking, bell is suppose to be finishing the upgrade for my area (etobicoke islington/bloor) in 6months, so im asking for a discount for 6months...or i switch to rogers :D

Alittle update.
Ultra is likely to be raised to 6000/800 and bussness is either going to be 7 or 8.
The reason for this is that for the most part the bell network is adsl1 which has a limit of roughly 8000/1000 which varies depending on distance (12 being the possiable max speed).
Adsl2 has a top speed of 24 which is still in the testing stage but only a short time off.
As a side benfit it improves the signal and there by improving speed to to those at a greater distance.

Windsor has had the hse upgraded already for the most part.
It seems after talking to the bussness office that ultra is likely to be 7-8 and bussness is going to be upgraded above that if the area supports it.
Seven seems the likely bet but with most of the bussness being close to nodes then its possaible 8 may be it for ultra.
We shall see the ultra increase by july.

When I called Bell, they said there are NO plans to upgrade the ultra's service. The only benefit you'll be getting for paying $15 more is that you'll be getting their useless services like MSN pro and all that garbage at no charge.. So, more than likely 95% of people who are oblivious will be downgrading their service to Regular sympatico high speed at the price of $34.95.
The 5200 modem should be capable of 8 Mbits d/l and 1Mbpit u/l..

Old post.
Already confirmed that it wont remain the same.
If you call and ask the billing department or management they will give you the info.
Low level tech support still hasn't gotten the idea that hse will be upgraded.
Ps call and check to see if your area is upgraded yet for hse as they may not have gotten around to chaging the profile yet.

If you are with bell you should get it in the next couple of weeks if your line can handle it.
Also from what i have heard bell is not upgrading Other isp's for now. Apparently they did this before with the last 2 upgrades they did. So they are talking with whoever controls all this and very soon they will be forced to upgrade other isp's
