A few good ones I browse are:
http://www.torrentspy.com/
http://www.mininova.org/
http://www.newnova.org/

Now the best? I can't say one is really better than another. newnova is still relatively new so it's smaller and not as good.

what are some of the best torrent applications that you people would suggest to use?

Denton

In my opinion, Azureus is the best BitTorrent client. However, you need to install Jave JRE 1.5 in order for it to work. uTorrent is also a good BitTorrent client, but it's not open source and some people are suspicious of the developer. BitComet is also very good but some private trackers are still banning it.

Actually, you are wrong. Ludde has never shared the source code with anyone and has stated that he has no plans to share it any time soon.

A lot of torrent programs utilize UPnP so you don't have to open ports, the program and the router talk to each other to do that for you. Your router has to support UPnP and be enabled, also you must enable UPnP in the program for it to work.

A few torrent programs that use UPnP are:
Azureus
uTorrent
Bitcomet

I would say it would, uPnP has been around for at least 5 years if not longer. Just make sure to enable it on the router and the bittorent program you are using.

its enabled, i checked thru the wireless (it takes forever and a day to boot the comp the routers wired to :P ). so how would i enable utorrent to use it then, because the setup dialog wants me to open a port in my router for it, which as stated earlier in the thread, something i do not want to do...

Well someone is lying then because both Ludde and Firon claimed that only Ludde had the complete source code and that he had no intention of open sourcing it. They both posted on Slyck.com if you want to look into this.

Azureus is open source and hasn't had this problem. In my opinion, he's just using this as an excuse not to open source it but it's his right to keep it closed. I only mentioned this because file sharers should have all the facts and should know that he sold DLL files to an anti-p2p company. Whether or not people think this is an issue is their business, but they should be aware of it nonetheless.

And even if you do have the real source for uTorrent it is still closed source. Open source means that it's available to anyone, not a select group of people.

Don't you download all of them? What if you only download certain ones? How is that done? I've never used RSS myself, therefore the questions.

The default settings allow you to download the first release and ignores the rest. I don't know exactly how to tell it download a release by a certain group but the default settings work for me so I didn't even bother reading up on it.
Basically you feed the rss link into Uttorent...I use this
http://tvrss.net/sources/eztv_m/
then you go into the "Releases" tab and right click on the show you want and "Add to favourites." In there you can set the folder you want the show to go into, and click "Smart ep. filter"
This works great for me but than again I'm not that picky anyway.

Set encryption, UPnP enabled, opened the port on my router (random port= 40779).

Anything else to help? Sometimes get 200KB/sec, but sometimes get like 40.... I geuss if its low try a better torrent?

Not sure but I think rogers is blocking or slowing down downloads from torrent's. Plus to top it of there charging for extra bandwidth. Seems like High speed internet companys only want people that just check there e-mails, and go to a few web sites. Or its 100 percent greed, and the what to find new ways to s---- you out of your hard earn money.

demonoid FTW

only because i've found that has a very reliable torrent database. find pretty much any MP3 or CD/album. I've found underground bands that piratebay, mininova and so forth will never ever have. Much more reliable movies from people who have been posting torrents for years and years. Amazing quality that i've not found anywhere else.

but alas you need an invite to join, no more free registration on fridays :P
so if you want one, you know who to PM ;) lol

btw if your into MMA (UFC, WEC) best site for that is grabthe.info
but again you need an invite to join lol

Torrent sites get threaten with lawsuits all of the time. The companies suing have billions of dollars and the people running most torrent sites are Joe blows. In the end it's easier to shut down the server but when one dies, 5 more pop up in their place. As torrent sites grow in popularity, the more people share and upload thrus making the site even better. The larger the sites become the more attention and lawsuits they attract until a judgment is made or the owners has had enough fighting a juggernaut.

As a result, the best Torrent sites are closed sites that require an invite or registration. Torrents are usually good quality, hardly any fakes or viruses and good download speeds due to many people sharing to maintain an enforced ratio.
