Is cell phone service susceptible to auto dialers and spammers the same way as the regular telephone service and the internet? I am with Fido and am having a problem with account balance being diminished out of proportion to my useage.

no
because it costs you money (major law suits south of the border)
your phone will have a log of all incoming calls recieved.
if that is not the same as your bill call fido
you can't be charged for calls you never got

On a regular basis someone/something is dialing my cell number and leaving text messages and I am getting charged for these calls. Calling Fido will get me an adjustment but that takes time. Fido's advice is for me to call the "offender" and ask them to cease & desist but IMO this just opens another can of worms.

I am going to try changing my cell phone number........

What if I don't want to receive Text Messages?

Go to "Send or manage text messages" in mytelusmobility.com Select preferences, and then choose the message source to be blocked, either Web-generated or e-mail. Once you have used this blocking feature, you will not receive or be charged for text messages sent to you from a PC. You'll still be able to receive messages sent to you from a wireless phone, which are free of charge.

I use Telus and I can block them call Fido and ask
