I was surprised at how barren and dead it looks. I realize it is the dry season, but which coast were you on?

We were on the pacific Coast... ie the pics of Playa Hermosa... this time of year the prevailing wids are the trade winds... from east to west... they come across the Atlantic and gulf of Mexico and then hit the Mountains in the middle of Cosat Rica.. drop all their rain there.. and are dry when they hit the west coast... in may the winds will change and blow from the south west and it will start to rain where we were... the Lush shots are in the interior at the rain and Cloud forests...

How would you rate it as a vacation?

It was excellent... not realy a place to go if you just wnat to sit on the beach... sand is black volcanic sand so it is dark in colour... gets very hot at midday.. and is hard.. not at all like Cuba or Dr beaches.... but if you want an active vacation then there is lots to do.. we did 4 tours in 7 days... and there is much we did not get to see.
