Picked up a JVC GR-SXM730 camcorder the other day (used) and it says it is in "Safe Mode". Gotta find out how to get it out of Safe Mode so I can use it. Battery fine, charges great, LCD screen OK, but locked in SAFE MODE.
:tch:
Didn't know a camcorder had Safe Mode ... MS must have made it :p
Any ideas, or past experience?
Ive seen this before... it happened when there was no space for recording on the chosen media.

Did you try the JVC website? They may have a downloadable Owner's Manual there. ...or... call Henry's.

Bogie, here's a link to download the Owner's Manual. The U on the end of the model # just means the unit is for sale in the U.S. and is gray market in any other country. The product is the same.

I searched the manual for the words safe mode ... nothing.
The only thing that came to mind when I first read your post was the "safety" or "lock" on the tape .... could it have gotten slid over? Seems too basic to even ask ... but I had to.

Thanks Lesster ... at least I've got that now. Couldn't find when I looked yesterday. It was stating the safe mode even before I put in the tape.
The egg hunt continues ....

Bogie - It appears you're not the only one with this problem.
This was taken from the following site:

I was Having problems with my JVS GR-SXM730 Camcorder as well. I was getting the error message about the Unit Being In Safe Guard Mode. I removed the battery from the camcorder, disconnected the power supply from the unit, and switched it to the OFF position and let the camcorder sit for about 5 minutes. I then reattached the battery, plugged the dc cord back into the camera and let the battery charge for about 10 minutes. I then moved the indicator to the PLAY position while at the same time holding the eject button. The unit ejected the tape inside. I pulled the tape out, then shut the cassette door and the error message went away and I am able to use my camcorder once again.

That poster's suggestion of hold PLAY button while ejecting tape just gets you a mangled tape LOL.
I could have a bad battery too. Looking into that. But even when on the charger/power supply the challenge still exists.
Nice camcorder, so I'd like to resolve this issue!

Just a thought does that camcorder have a button cell battery
to keep the time?
If so try removing it and the run battery let sit for a few hours.
see if that resets it.

Bogie, I'm wondering if you got your camcorder working. Have been watching for a new post ... ... ... so I finally just had to ask.

Is your JVC camcorder up and running yet? If not here's some info in the attached screen capture.

Thanks for asking Leester .....
I've tried that suggestion about battery removal, etc., and it doesn't work. Even picked up a spare battery just in case. You can always use a spare anyway.
Looks like I'll have to locate a local JVC repair shop (or a Henry's) and ask their opinion.
