I was wondering since there's a free firewall, is there a free anti-virus somewhere? Anyone use one that is good? I used to use Norton, wondering if there's a free one before getting a new one.

Thanks.

Thanks for the links.

Have you or anyone used any of those before? I'd like some comments before I go ahead and use one.

I have used Avast for the past year since AVG started giving me problems and it has been great!!

I've used many of those listed and was very pleased. AntiVir http://www.free-av.com/ is another good one.

I ulitimately went back to AVG for it's scheduling ability.

We have 4 comps running AGV Free (for a number of years now) and no problems. I'm satisfied.

OK, I'll put in my 2 cents too...

I've used AVG for years without a single problem.

Earlier this year I thought I shouldn't just recommend it over the others so blindly and tried some of the others out (Avast, e-trust, and Panda) for 2 weeks each.
Panda kept slowing down and crashing my W2k system, so it was removed.
E-Trust worked well, and maybe if I had given it more time I would have gotten used to the interface... but I just didn't care for it.
Avast seems to work really fast... and makes me wonder if it's over looking things... and you also couldn't schedule scans... I hated this interface.

Ultimately, I went back to AVG :xcc:

I hope that you fully uninstalled Norton before installing AVG... Norton seems to muck up any other AV if it's not fully removed ;)

Yes, I have been using AVG for quite a few years now and I have found it works well also. Like any anti virus software the most important thing is to keep the software up to date. AVG will give you an alert when it is out of date.
