Girl I used to work with has moved onto a new company which has some REALLY restricted policy to what can be installed on the desktop, ok more like NOTHING can be installed. Very limited as well where she can create directories as well. Well now she wants to install install her FIREFOX and some other tools that she's used to using such as translators(English not her first language). I believe she is somewhat limited as well with what can be written to the registry as well.

Anyone have an idea what she might be able to do? I was thinking she could get a USB Drive and install the apps she wants in it, but I'm thinking if she's limited to writing to the registry she might be outta luck. I could provider he with 'access' instructions to get the admins password, but I didn't want to do down that root.

it's best for her to talk to her manager or send an e-mail to the IT
dept.
But you and I know that if they let one person do something the rest will want it too
there are translating web sites that could help her for right now
but I can't see IT having a problem with FireFox

If its being done through group policy, then there is NO way around it. Talk to IT, thats the only way.

Thanks. I'll let her know, she's not going to like it. Not much I can do :)

There is a portable version of firefox:

But she really needs to clear it with her IT people first. There is usually a good reason for locking down a machine like that.
