Hi,

I have been using Execulink for 5 years now. I have DSL and my speeds
are very poor (I think) today 261 down and 300 up.
Their advertising says 1.5 down, I have never seen anything like that.

I have satellite tv so think that cable is not an option but if anyone
is using a provider in London with good speeds as well as tech spport
could you point me in the right direction.
By the way I have a wired router and am networked to one other laptop.
This winter in the States I had cable and may be spoiled with speeds
of 6 megs.
Cheers,
Charleen

Your DSL speeds are going to be a direct result of your distance from the 'central office', which is where your lines tie in to the main system. Do you know your line length to the CO?

Have you done speed tests in the past to know what you used to get? Did you get up to the 1.5 meg before?
If so, you probably have a line or modem problem, and Execulink should have Bell look into it.
If not, then that's all you can get out of your lines and any DSL provider is going to be the same.

You can get Rogers internet without having TV services... and they don't charge an extra $10 for it anymore either.

Oh, and I've know many people that are not happy with Execulink's support, so you're not alone there if you're not getting any help from them.

But first thing first... gotta find out where the problem is...
Is it the lines (fixable), or the modem (fixable), or is it your ISP (you can get another DSL ISP).

My parents are in the White Oaks area and the CO is just down the road from them. Perfect speeds for 3 years now. Service provider is Bell. Only had to call them twice. Once for our Vista 350 giving the lines a hard problem and the other when the old modem died.

Other than that it has been very reliable and a full 3 Mbps.

Thank you Dr and 007.
I am in White Oaks also so that should n't be a problem.
I think I should have Bell look at the lines.

White Oaks covers a large area and there's more than one CO around there.

You can't call Bell directly on these kind of issues... you have to call your ISP and if they feel they need to, they will call Bell to check the lines.

There's a CO at Southdale and Wellington Road. That building beside the church which says Bell on it ;). I know that area like the back of my hand. ;)

Im from london and have Bell "HSE". Im in the East Park area. I've been getting terrible speeds for the past 5 years. I've called them a bunch of times, same old thing "yeah we will look into that". Heres my speed test from DSL reports:
dslreports.com speed test result on 2006-04-21 16:33:27 EST:
968 / 315
Your download speed : 968 kbps or 121 KB/sec.
That is 58.7% worse than an average user on sympatico.ca
Your upload speed : 315 kbps or 39.4 KB/sec.
That is 43.6% worse than an average user on sympatico.ca

I've called them about how far I am from the CO and stuff but they never answered me. Any ideas on what I can do?

You have brought up a subject of speed, what realy is it?
I go to an outsider to check my speed
http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/
Last Result:
Download Speed: 2128 kbps (266 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 507 kbps (63.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Using NoteBook WiFi connection (AOL)

There still is hope that the competion will make things better for Less!

I used execulink for a few years with no problems.
Then one day it went to crap and they never fixed it so i switched to rogers.
I think they wanted rid of me, simply because i downloaded alot of stuff.
So they downgraded my speed in hopes i would leave, and i did.
ISP's may say they offer unlimited access, but only if it suits them.
I'm happy with rogers, at least they are up front about their limits to downloading and the speed is awesome!
Download Speed: 4793 kbps (599.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 384 kbps (48 KB/sec transfer rate)
Thats on normal rogers high speed, not extreme.

I'm in Westminister Park and get speeds similar to yours. I also have called about the CO and get no response either.
