I have a DELL pc actually its my sister but since I use it more then her I consider it mine.

Anyways I had an issue and had to go to a computer store i go to to have them back up my files onto there hard drive and they formated XP and I asked them to re-install my dell xp cd but seeing it would have taken a long time to install that and then install service pack two they had a cd-r copy of windows xp home edition with service pack 2. The cd was an oem cd and they entered my cd key located on the side of the tower. They of course activated the windows xp.

Now seeing they didnt install the dell xp cd. I was wondering down the road i hope to get a dvd burner installed and take out the cd burner. Will this cause my windows xp to ask to reactivated?

If you plan on reinstalling windows when installing the dvdburner yes you will need to reactivate. but if your just installing a burner then you shouldn't run into any problems.. i hope that answers you question

Well Dan i already have XP on my computer. All i want to do is go to a store purchase the dvd burner have them take out my cd burner and install the dvd burner.

So I wont have an issues if this is done?

By just swapping out or adding an optical drive (dvd burner), windows should not have to be activated again.

100% agreed with Deb, hardware swaps ... other than a mobo/cpu shouldn't require reactivation
