We're doing the big one. Living with a microwave and a coffeemaker for almost 6 weeks. Here's my view from my living room into my, er, kitchen...

Judging by those studs, your house looks in the 60+ year old range. I was almost 1 year with no cupboards in a house I renovated so I know the feeling. Good luck and post some finish pics.

Oh my! I can't let the wife see this thread!
Otherwise she's gonna want me to get off my duff and get cracking on the floors ... change from carpet to hardwood. Of course I put off the inevitable as long as I can.

Looking at those studs, I'm wondering what's holding up that part of the roof???

The integrity has been sapped by all those cut-outs.

What Tim, no post & tube wiring?? ;)

Tim

it isn't a load bearing wall. A few other houses actually knocked it out.

Those doorways are original to the house, the left one to the basement, which was closed when it was a separate apartment, the right one, was an original walk in pantry.
The house was built in '22.
What started all this, was the insurance company demanding the knob and tube which fed the kitchen be replaced. So rather than rewire, then redo the kitchen next year as we had planned, we took the plunge now, and we are also having the rest of the house that needs rewire plus new panel also happening starting next week. So to add to our fun, no power for a bit too.

I redid the main room from two rooms and a hallway to an open concept with exposed brick and new hardwood flooring mostly myself, but that isn't me doing the work this time. I'm hired an excellent contractor I know out of Oshawa to do the demo and reframing/finishing as I am far too busy to do this now. He has done some work for me before and I couldn't recommend him enough.

Plumber comes in tomorrow to replumb and rough in the new locations.
The patio door guys come in next week to cut a 6ft opening in the back wall for the new patio door.
Fun. I'll post pics as it goes.

here's afew more, with the new window in where a door was, and a sliding door where the other door was.
The door window company was awesome. Highly recommend this company, Gator windows out of Scarborough.
The bricking guys from Gator were in their 70s. Did an awesome job, after a couple rains, you won't be able to tell, and it's an 80 year old brick wall.

Looking good Tim, reno's definately influence your lifestyle to a degree. It appears that you're still safe in your undies though. ;)

How deep's your backyard?

How deep's your backyard?

the Earth has two cores--the inner core and the
outer core. The inner core is solid and is about 5100
kilometers down (approximately 3150 miles). Surrounding
the inner core is the outer core, which is believed to
be liquid, and starts about 2900 kilometers below the
surface of the earth (1800 miles).:eri:

yep. New deck raised is next.

It never ends...Like I said before... are you sure it's ONLY the kitchen you're doing? ;)

No, of coarse not! It never ends at one room... every change you make causes another change to be made ;)

Hope you're having fun Tim... and remember, it'll be over soon :)

that's already happened. With the walls opened we saw the scary plumbing in the upstairs bathroom, so I demolished it myself to the studs.

I'm looking forward to the end of reno pics. The during reno pics bring back nightmares of my own renovation. Shudder.

Very nice, and easy to load for me.

I like that. :d

Still a 'galley kitchen', but I expect that comes with the house style?

Nice work! I really like the shape of the floor tiles, not the usual squares. I'll bet the prep surface had to be very carefully checked for level, as the tiles look fairly long. I didn't check too close, but I'd guess about 7" X 14"?

The cabinets look great and actually have the handles in the best possible location on each door.

Great choices!! Enjoy.

24 x 12 actually. Yes leveler had to be used. We almost went with the 24 x 24s. But these looked best. Not cheap tile, full body porcelin.

Looking really good Tim!

Another new stove? You just got a new one a few months ago...

Where is your laundry room going? It used to be just inside the door... which is now the expanded kitchen ;)

You gotta be happy that everything is pretty close to being on schedule... and will be done soon... very soon :)
