Converting XVID/DIVX to mpeg2

I have a problem converting XVID/DIVX downloads to Mpeg2 so I can watch them on my DVD player. Any recommendations?

I have not been able to find anything that will convert XVID to some format that will play on my DVD player (VCD, SVCD and DVD). I used NERO to make some coasters ... although it was encoding and wrote something that will not play. Does anyone know? Thanks.
