It's a simple one.

Yes or No

No question, Yes.

Let's keep everyone honest.

So Yes in a perfect world

If 'someone' has the time to cut & paste the text, then they have time to do the same for the URL.

IMO.

If Doug is looking for posts with unsupported quotes being deleted, then I'm for that too.

We might as well censor the whole board and have everyone screaming at us. This wouldn't be directed at any "certain" person.....Would it?:gaa:

Then spaminator wouldnt have many posts left :p

That statement i dont support, :vfw: too much work and if you dont want to see somthing because theirs no "proof" then you shouldnt be on the internet.

I don't want to see anyone's posts deleted.

What I want is not having to call up Google or go searching for the source of a "cut'n'paste" job.

Mousemeat summed it up nicely.

I'd wait for Nave's "proof" to his over-zealous proclamation, but I'd have to ignore it anyway because it would be on the 'net.

Don't know.. is it directed at me? I know I provide a source with my news posts. :tch:

Wow, this poll is amazing.

It even has a no vote from someone who joined in 2003 and has never posted in a single thread.

Doug, you raise a much more interesting point.

The poll was not stated to be an "Open Poll".

Why is that??

Yes, in response to the question....

Not quoting a source is no different than turning in a research essay at school without including footnotes. It's plagiarism, pure and simple.

it's the law. Period. If you read the terms at say, the Sun, it clearly states that reproduction in any form is illegal.
Another huge Canadian forum I go to, which has a very very busy lively political forum, has very strict rules, because apparently there was trouble over it. If you post copyrighted material, chances are it may not be noticed. But I would respectfully say any owner of a site should make it a rule that reproduced copyrighted material should be credited, or linked properly.
Everyone it seems, in the news tech forum, Bluevertigo, Paul and others etc., all seem to respect this.

I Personally think it shows this forum, it's owners (Les and Deb), some concern and respect to do so.

Just my 2 cents (or 5 :))

It stated that it was an public poll when I voted. I guess that gets removed after you vote. Les or Deb could clarify that.

Oh??

I guess that message went into the ether when I voted.

My mistake.

I try when possible to include "the source; ie: CTV.ca News Staff. sue-ann.levy@tor.sunpub.com (sue-ann.levy@tor.sunpub.com), etc. and if necessary a link. I thought the idea here was to discuss the content not pick flycrap out of pepper.

I don't think Walter quite gets it.

define the problem....

it's illegal, has gotten other forums into trouble, and shows a disregard for the law, the author of the written piece, their employer, and the owners of this website.

Remedy, literally 3 SECONDS, to swipe your mouse acros te top url, copy, then paste.

Instant respect, regard for the law, and everyone involved.

Absolutely amazing, what 3 seconds these days, will get you.

Buuuut, if you don't give give a crap about people, well, you'll think of it as flycrap.

Be my guest.

That statement i dont support, :vfw: too much work and if you dont want to see somthing because theirs no "proof" then you shouldnt be on the internet.i hope your not suggesting that my posts are false or made up by me? the reason why i usually don't post links is because this computer is low end and works extremely slow with the internet. there is even a delay even when right clicking and waiting for the menu options to load onto the screen. i wish there was a way to copy and paste the text, pics, and url all in one shot. :(

Just Doug1

A short quote and the URL is basically all that are needed and CRTL+C and CRTL+V avoid the menu delays for the most part.
