Does anybody else here think Rogers is wasting airspace by putting MTV into the basic cable package? I mean, bleckh! It's nothing but crummy reality shows -if you can call drivel like Laguna Beach reality! Wheres the um...I don't know...music! They should've put Tech TV in its place, or, better yet, BBC Canada. There's something worth watching. Please put in your two cents on the issue. It just makes me so mad!
Well unfortinutely they replaced Talk TV with MTV and did not apply for a new license so it has to be a talk channel. From what I hear they will be applying for another MTV channel for music content.

Agreed, but they are targeting a younger demographic which is probably why they went with it.

It's all about Can-Con.
That's what the CRTC wants.
What YOU want is irrelevant.

The CRTC is a bureaucracy that has long ago outlived its usefulness and is just a repository for party hacks for the party in power. Nothing more.
But wait, Exmortis says "I have a lot to learn about the CRTC" :d

a few sentences doesnt prove anything otherwise.
MTV canada was never meant for music, as they said they were leaving that for Much they didnt want to introduce competition. Thats what i read anyways, I have yet to even find it on the dial but i hate the non music shows Much plays so i doubt id even watch MTV anyways. But some kids will watch it.. just enough for them to think its doing well :vfw:

I know that because of some of the things I have said and done in my life that I am probably going to hell. And I just bet that when I get there that Hell will have 2 TV stations. Channel 666 has The O.C. played every hour on the hour. The O.C. makes Melrose Place look like Shakespeare performed at Stratford. On channel 666A will be MTV Canada. What is this crap! Maybe I am just too old and cranky but I have cleaned enough cat boxes in my day to know that this is stinky soft serve drech.

I totally agree with you guys when I first found out I got MTV I got a little happy because on the digital cable one they had cool video game shows like Electric Playground and Reviews on the Run but as soon as I went on there website I just found all these crappy shows that I hate.I wish they put G4Tech TV.
The problem with the CRTC, is that while it is an 'enabler' for horrible crap here, the way the Canadian industry is run here, there would be no Canadian music scene to speak of. When you're Canadian band on a major here, it's interesting to see what sort of priority you are on the release schedules stateside. It's kind of a bandaid on a festering wound.

Does anyone remember when MTV and Much actually played music videos?

I was waiting for someone else to bring it up.
The station sucks. The hosts seem like uneducated morons who know nothing about music, or about anything else for that matter, always reading off their cue cards for what to say next...it's pathetic.
I always thought MTV was music, but I have yet to see any music video's being played, why is that?
