Has anyone setup a blog site on your own hosting server? What software(s) do you recommend for a beginner?

Wordpress is good for putting it on your own server. Blogger is good as a hosted solution.

Thank you all for your replies. Wordpress seems to be very interesing. Not sure if our Roger Hosting Server meets the requirement.

I'd tested Roger's Easy Blog Builder today, very easy to setup. However, limited in features.

Can't do Wordpress on Rogers since it needs a database. I run Wordpress on a server I have here at home on the Rogers network. Your best bet if you want to start blogging is Blogger.com

Thank you Digital.

I need to setup it up under our domain name. Like www.mydomain.com/blog, I think Blogger.com is not suitable.

Would Roger's Business Web Hosting Server offer the following?

* PHP 4.2 or greater
* MySQL 3.23.23 or greater
* The mod_rewrite Apache module

I would e-mail them and find out.

If you have a domain somewhere you can have mydomain.com/blog forward to your blogger blog. If you need somewhere to put your domain, see below.

If you want an actual hosting service, Rogers seems a big pricey for what they offer. Check out 1and1.com. I've used them without any major problems for a while now. Even their $2.99/month (USD) would work well for you.

Agree with Nuke. $3 and that gives you access to the database and you can run wordpress:
