Hi,

I am trying to connect my fiancee's new eMac with Airport Extreme (wireless) card to my Microsoft Wirless "G" router (MN-700).
I started a thread on the alternate TCM board with the orginal board went down.

1) Airport card works in the eMac.
2) On the MS router, ALL security has been turned OFF including WEP/WAP etc., MAC filtering has been turned OFF.

I went to a Mac support board recommended by a TCM member (ehMac.ca).

The following is what someone recommended:

Problem:
I went to the eMac and clicked once on the Network Icon in the System Preferences.

A Popup appeared showing:
"Show: Network Status" (drop down box)
Below this shows:
Airport with a YELLOW DOT to the right of it.
On the right-hand side of this says:
"Airport is connect to MSHOME (which is my Microsoft router).
Airport does NOT HAVE AN IP ADDRESS and cannot connect to the internet"

OK... How do I the airport to connect to the router and obtain an ip address?

Thanks in advance to all for your help.
HELP!!!! :(

to start off, did you check tizerfish's suggestion of the computer name? That apparently is a common problem.

A quick question, do you have any other computers connecting to the router wirelessly successfully?

Problem solved!!!! :D

First...

I found out what the ip address is of the Airport Extreme wireless card in the eMac.

I logged into the router and added the eMac's ip address into the MAC address allow list.
I went to the eMac.
Apple menu
System Preferences
Select "Airport" icon by clicking on it once
Click on the "configure" button
Click on "MSHOME" which is the name of my wireless router
Select "TCP/IP" tab which is next to the "Airport" tab
On the Dropdown box for "Configure IPv4:"
I selected "Using DHCP with Manual Address"
I entered the IP address from when I "added the eMac's ip address into the MAC address allow list."
Left the subnet mask to default of 255.255.255.0
Press the "APPLY NOW" button
YAHOO!!! eMac is NOW connected to the net thru a Microsoft router.
My fiancee is now one happy person! :rah:

Hi folks. WOW! That was complicated. Frankenmac, with a Belkin USB wireless adaptor just... connected to the Belkin router. It should have been easier for you -- but all's well now.

Cheers.

if a router is properly set up, an airport will pretty much 'always' just connect. I've travelled a fair amount and used many 'networks' and rarely ever had a problem.
There must have been something fairly odd about the router setup.
