Well I've decided to join the masses and am now in the market to buy my first LCD monitor to replace my 6 year old CRT.
I've been looking at a few monitors and decided on purchasing the BenQ FP71G+ from Canada Computers at $299.

Just looking for people's comments on the monitor and if you have suggestions on a better one I'll consider it. My budget will be $500 max for a good general purpose LCD; gaming of various types (fps, rpg, strategy), watching videos and general office usage.
Further research turned up the 710N from samsung at tigerdirect. So what are your thoughts about this one and which one do you think I should get?

Spend the extra $100 bucks, GET a 19" LCD, you will be much, much, more happy. I originally bought a smaller lcd and got tired of it quick.

I was at staples tonight and looked at that monitor, I was in awe.
The glossy finish made the screen look like a picture you could actually grab, simply outstanding.

930B is an outstanding monitor. but i like the effect on the BenQ 71V or 91V.

The 71V and 91V look nice, but the thing I don't like about it is that it comes with speakers that I will never use.
Leaning a bit towards the 930B because of that.

Well I would be paying for the cheap speakers in the monitor and I have no use for them.
Thanks for the comment about the 930B, but with the more research I do on it I see that the 940B will be coming out. The 940B will have an 8-bit panel (compared to the 6-bit on the 930B), so the colour reproduction should be more accurate. Wondering if I should wait on the 940B.
The 940B is also 16.2 million colours and not 16.7, there's virtually no difference between the 930 and 940 models.

You won't notice the difference between 16.2M and 16.7M unless you're doing high end graphics work. If you play fast motion games you might want to look at the 930BF which is 4ms.

That's only 4ms Gray to Gray (G to G).
So what would the response rate be for colour?
The grey to grey spec is the one commonly used by manufacturers today to rate the speed of the faster LCD displays. You can always ask the manufacturer for the "typical response time" but they might not divulge that info as it's always higher than the GTG rating.

The Dell ultrasharp 17" is very nice, I have one. As well, you can get the soundbar (speakers) that clips onto the bottom of the LCD.

Just bought this recently and replaced the ol' 19" radiation king. I'm just hoping I can still make babies...the ol' clunker always used to make my room into a sauna. Oh and my eyes...holy lord!
