The last few days my torrents have been dead on Rogers, nothing, 0% all the time. I made no config changes, tried rebooting my modem and router, nothing.
Anyone else experiencing the same thing?
Using bit comet, with my ope port in the 5xxxx range

Mine are working fine. I'm using ABC 3.01 with open ports in the 6xxxx range.

Working for me. Not using the standard port either
Using Azureus and there is only 1 seed and 5 peers and I'm getting 30k so it's working doesn't have to be alot of people sharing.

I wonder if its my segment or they are just throttling me.

so finally someone else makes a post i can agree with, but it seems its still not happening to everyone. not fair!
I've basically quit using torrents for several weeks now. Well, not that i use it that often anyway, but the throttling is such a turn off. It's one thing to limit the download speeds, but slowing it to a snails pace or a next-to-nothing speed is just plain ridiculous.
I wonder if "LEGITIMATE" users (who download just as much or perhaps more) are being throttled as such. If not, then what differs us from them?

Well I know its definitely rogers, because I have two internet connections and I changed they gateway on my pc to my ADSL connection an wham, the torrents strated downloading, so Rogers is definitely doing something to block all 65,000 ports somehow. Too bad, guess I'll have to dump rogers again.

Try using a lower port number

i thought bittorrent was illegal. and i suppose being a computer forum, this place would not promote the download of illegal torrents/files.
if one thinks about it, there would be no legal reason to download any form of torrent.
well...
Yes you can discuss File sharing, Torrents, DVD burning BUT only about non-disclosed files !

One of many myths. No TRUE. Torrents are 100% legal. There is nothing wrong about using bittorrent or any other p2p. The problem is the files that are shared. Torrent was created to provide a means of send out large files. IE Linux Distros.

Try using a lower port number
I have tried all sorts of port numbers, high and low, it makes no difference. What made the difference was switching to my DSL connection.

ok as we all clearly know dr. knowledge the programs are never illegal. it's the actions put forth by the user that makes them illegal. too bad you couldn't decipher that from my post I was stating the following...
99.9% percent or torrents being exchanged are for illegal/pirated files.
please note my heavy use of sarcasm in the first sentence. :bby:

Why bother with Torrent or any P2P, use newsgroups? Find a good paid news server, you will get 600K download.

alas your not even close to being correct.
yup theres alot of illegal stuff and no one argues that .
theres also a very large amount of legal stuff out there since nearly every serious site off downloads by bitt now.
torrent sites are vastly out numbered by other sites which use bt (a good example would be porn sites).
care to guess which one of these is the leader in useing bt?
not long ago it was estamated that half the internet was used by bt downloads, some people just asumed that me illegal stuff and didn't finsh reading it.

Blizzard distributes the patches to the game World Of Warcraft via torrents. So where does the "no legal reason" apply here?

And yet you said "I thought bittorrent was illegal" in that post of yours. Nice contradiction.

his logic is flawed because it wasn't thought through.
ever major company and there brother is going to use it becuase it saves money..its just that simple.
now it doesn't say much that the biggest user is becuase males tend to think with the wrong part most of the time...lol.
As much as I like talking about what's legal and what isn't (How much money do the rich and big corporations - RIAA? - ferret away in offshore tax havens, which is all mixed up with the dirtiest money used by terrorists etc?), I just want to comment on the Rogers question.
I've been wondering about Rogers myself. I'm not super smart when it comes to this stuff, but I have been file sharing and using bit torrent for a while now.
In recent weeks, I've noticed that the two hour long tv shows that I regularly download, via bt, shortly after midnight on Fridays, no longer hit the nice speeds they used to. While I can live with that if I have to (in the grand scheme of things, it's unimportant), I am curious about it.
A friend pointed out to me that Rogers has been upgrading it's system to make it more digital or something, for which reason he (not me though) got a notice to upgrade his modem. I'll be doing that. But to add a degree of confusion, I uninstalled my old Shadow's Experimental 5.1.4 (or close to that) and downloaded/ installed the latest stable Azureus. I couldn't make heads or tails of it. But it worked magnificently, hitting speeds of over 200 KB/s.
The Azureus site, by the way, has a lengthy detailed guide for optimizing settings, and, I noticed from other posts here, did suggest adding a 1 to the port number if there's problems. But check out the explanation for that before you do it, in case it doesn't apply to you.
What threw me about the Azureus, was that it didn't automatically connect to my Shareaza (latest public beta, to be replaced very soon by the latest official version). I therefore uninstalled the Azureus, found the latest iteration of my own client and installed it. It automatically connected to my Shareaza, but the speeds seem to be back to poopy. I do have to test run it a little more mind you. In any case, Whether Azureus connects to my Shareaza or not, come Friday, That's what I'll be using.
On a side note, Has anyone else been unable to get into Shareaza's Forums? I've been unable to get in for a few days now. I hope all is well over there.
Later...
Oh yes, There are other things going on. Folks wondering about Rogers might be interested in Tyler Hamilton's recent Toronto Star article about telcos and their interest in capitalizing on the increasing traffic on the net, at the expense of folks downloading music and movies. Just pop on to the Toronto Star's site, register if you're not already (it's free and painless), click on the 'columnists' line on the left, scroll down to the Business section and you'll see Hamilton in there. I also recommend reading Hamilton, and, especially, Michael Geist (balanced and fair and not totally in industry's pockets) on a regular basis.
The gist of the article is that with more and more folks eating up bandwidth, service will be poopy unless packets are deep scanned (whatever that involves), which of course means more work. So who's packets are going to be deep scanned? Those who are likely to have more money to spend and who politically will have more clout, I'm sure. Elsewhere, Shaw has already told hi speed buyers that if they don't want spotty service, no problem. For an extra $10 more a month, the great service they've come to know and rely on will still be there. Hamilton says Rogers is thinking of doing the same thing.

i was trying to download a UT2004 patch a few days ago via BT...other servers required queueing/signing-up which i didn't want to bother with.
So it started at a nice 180 kB/s ... then i WATCHED it slow to a crawl ... dropped to 2 kB/s .... this is bullsh!t........................
