I got a friend that is thinking about visiting me here in Markham. She lives in the USA and is going to drive here but one question i have is can she rent a car in the USA and drive it into Canada? Arent there rules against that?

If she is able to do that if the car is GPS tracking on it i take it there is a map for Canada so while she is here she can put it to use.

A US resident may rent a car in the US, then drive to Canada as long as they return the car in the US there's no problem.
Relatives have done this many a time.

I rented in Nevada many times, took the cars to Arizona, California etc.

They require you inform them if you're going out of state, and if I remember correctly vehicles you rent there are tracked.

So I would imagine at the time of rental, you just inform them.

Ya thats what i was thinking cause i told her to tell them what she is going to use the car for and i had a feeling there tracked. Does anyone know of any rental websites in the states that have GPS with the car. So that way she can drive and know where she is going and when she gets here she knows around my area. I heard some car rental places have this but i've searched and couldn't find anything.

Well, for one Alamo offers GPS (http://www.alamo.com/itemDetails.do;+lO5GmkPJjQjwiQzOngbynknvrkLOlQzNp6 5In0__?HelpItemID=GPS) equipment, at some locations.

But unless you give us some indication of where she will be renting I can't help you any better then that.

All I know is the car rental places near her should have GPS tracking so that way when she leaves the usa into canada it tells her where to go.

I think Avis rent a car in the states has this feature if you are still looking for which ones that do. I was with my sister in SC when she had one.

We always got unlimited mileage, depending on where she's coming from you should check how that works.

Ya i'll ask her about that too. What about putting gas in is there some sorta rule about how much to put in or if you get charged extra.

Generally comes with a full tank, I always returned it with a full tank. They do charge you to refill it upon return, and it's usually a premium on regular gas station prices. What you use inbetween is your responsibility.

How far is she coming from?

She is coming from Boston. I'll remind her to refill it before she returns it.
