If one wants to upgrade from express to extreme what needs to be done?

Do I need to get a new modem?

Can I rent it?

Does someone have to come to my place to set it up, if I already have express setup?

you may need a new modem and no you must buy it or the old one if its going to do extreme.

No no-one has to come over to your place to set it up ( unless they are swapping it) So long as its a Doc sis modem you should be fine. When I had Rogers I had the express service and I just purchased the exisisting one I had ( it was allready a docsis) and they just sent a file to it from the office.

If you have an older modem (terayon terapro, lancity, or motorola cyber surfr) you will require a new modem and can either call and have a new modem sent to you or go to Rogers Video or Futureshop/Best Buy and pick up a new modem. If you have a new modem (Toshiba, Scientific Atlanta, Motorola SurfBoard, Ericsson, Terayon Terajet or RCA) all you have to do is call Rogers and ask to upgrade to the extreme service and tell them you have a compatible modem and they will upgrade you within 10 minutes.

Nope, Rogers will not let you use any modem besides theirs.

I would recomend the Motorola SB5100 Usb modem , the webstar seems to have firmware issues.

I'll agree that the Motorola SB5100 is the modem of choice... but there isn't any issues with the Webstar... the firmware was updated a long time ago (before I got mine back in Jan. 05).

Yes, 60 gig up / down total per month.
If you go over, they send you a nasty letter... go over a second time and they'll suspend you... go over a third time and they'll ban you permanantly.
TBS, allot of people have gone over and haven't heard anything from Rogers... :rrg:

Yes I have the Webstar modem.

Upgraded a few days ago.

Getting very good speed tests. So far so good.

Mike, your post about only aloud to use rogers modems is untrue. You can purchase the same modem they would give you from any where else. And use it. I did. I lived with the gf and mother, upgraded her internet to extreme. Since her modem was old school, i had to go to rogers and get their new modem. I came home installed the new modem, called rogers, they hit the button, and i had extreme.

when i moved out, i got rogers again. this time though, instead of paying the $100 they ask for to upgrade to the better modem, i bought one from best buy. the same modem rogers would give you. installed it, called rogers, and away i went

KnightRider, those are still Rogers autherized modems being sold by Rogers autherized dealers.
They have to be flashed with Rogers firmware before they can be used on the Rogers network... and they won't flash one that came from outside their network of retailers.

To the best of my knowledge , if you want to upgrade to the next level of highspeed internet , you need to have a new modem

The modems sold by Best Buy are distributed and supported by Rogers. Best Buy is also an authorized distributor for Rogers.

60 gig cap is alot when you think about it, most people will use that in a year. I had sympatico a couple of years ago when there was a 5 gig cap.

I download full DVD movies 4.7gigs each with a min. of 4 movies a day....and software downloads and game downloads....so yea...60gig is not enough for me....

Oh My You spend to much time downloading then try reading a book :)

I use maybe 4 gig a month and sympatico is unlimited no caps.
