My fiancee really likes her eMac! I think my next computer will probably be an Apple.

Excuuuuuuuse me Mr. Big Spender....
The deal was for a imac duo, bootcamped with XP.
Ièm sitting here posting this from a Bondi Blue G3 Imac, somehow it doesnèt look the same as the imac duo pictures Iève seen. Oh, and what the hell is up with the damn apostropheÉÉ
Bah, canèt even post a question mark :(

65 Bucks is 65 Buck , Baby .. I have video to show your enjoyment
So we have to move your PC out and the mac in for 2 months
Anybody got a Bondi Blue Keyboard for me? Seems Mr. Big Spender didn't get one with it...
bondi blue.
ewwwww.
is it running OS X?
set the keyboard to USA. Canadian makes you speak French when you least expect it.
btw, parallels is better than bootcamp, you can run dual monitors, with OS X in one monitor, and windows in the other at the same time.
I'm waiting for the powermac version where I can run triple monitor with OS X, win, and linux all at the same time.
OS9, can it run something better than that?
oi. That's serious ancient.
it's like running win NT4.
apparently you can run Tiger. I've read tiger is the better one for older macs.
But depending on your imac, if it's a tray loading (cd rom) model, you need to partition a 8gig ( or smaller) partition to install tiger on to. If it's a slot loader, you don't need to.
Also, you need minimum 256 ram to even run it. I wouldn't bother below 512 especially on such an ancient machine. (1998)
GET THE CORE DUO. IT ROCKS AS A MACHINE.
oops caps...
I HATE OS 9. Always did.
get the core duo...
Yes, I drool for the duo but El Cheapo doesn't seem to agree with me on this one. Hey, my apostrophe works :)
best bang for the buck right now. That's what reviewers think.
I have the first gen imac G5 (which had a few wrinkles) at home and it's a very nice computer. The new intels really smoke.
Ok, ram is up to 384 and it's a slot loader, am I ready to go?
I think so, I have to check if there is an update. But if it's a slot load it'll run OS X. We'll see if CoC has been into the chocolate covered expresso beans and we'll get a page of info from him. ;)
I emailed CoC because he knows those sort of items better. I have some ear drums to hurt this eve.
Tim, it seems the slot loader is not a dvd player, Can it only be installed from a DVD?

No Deb say it isn't so........
yea Tiger is a dvd. But you could just (if you happen to have one lying around...) plug a firewire external dvd in. CoC is missing in action so far he'd know if you can boot that way. Of course one way I did it on an old mac was install tiger on a hard drive in a G4 and popped the hard drive into the old mac.
There should be a way around this as macs can boot off of anything.
I'd say play hard ball on the imac core duo.

Some of us just have to make the most of our old Macs even though we would love to have new Macs. Obviously it's not your main work machine so have fun with what's available for it. :)

What started out as a G4/single 450MHz/128/20 ATA66/DVD-ROM/Rage 128 Pro seven years ago has been upgraded to a dual 1.3GHz/2GB/320GB ATA133 striped RAID/dual-layer DVDRW/Radeon 9000 64MB AGP + Radeon PCI 32MB system.
I, sir, have definitely made the most of my Mac :D
It is just that what any PC user would REALLY want and should REALLY have is a Mac with Intel CPUs. With such a system, they have a world of adventure to play in: a fast, current Apple product that can run currentt versions off Apple's best-of-breed software, Mac OS X and Windows natively -- even at the same time if they wish (almost natively).
A G3 iMac is SO last millennium!

Ah! For charity? Well then, for the kiddies I'll help how I can.
SO, a slot loader -- but not a DVD drive... might it be this one? (http://www.lowendmac.com/imacs/blue.shtml) This was the only iMac that had a slotted CD-ROM drive. Unfortunately, it doesn't have Firewire. Right? And, it's USB 1 and I'm not sure if it can boot off of it.
Do read the above URL. There is a lot of good info and further links to upgrading that iMac. For instance, if that is indeed the right one, you can put a gig of PC100 (or 133 as you know it'll clock down). The more RAM, the better. Beware of firmware upgrades (if needed), and that you do them before installing OS X.
Now, as for what version of OS X?? I might still have some Panther installers lying around. If I can find them this week, it would be MY HONOUR to send them to you, giving you a sneak peek at the Windows Vista golden master in the process ;)

And BTW, @ 350MHz, you won't be doing much iLife... but, you could probably do the iTunes & iPhoto part of it. Other than that, it should serve as a decent little web surfer, Office worker.
it's a nice little preview though. Something to fool with until the imac.
Hey I had a beige G3 for a while before I took the plunge remember? And that was OS 9. :gaa:
CoC is the soup nazi of mac info now. ;)

Anything but this crappy OS9 would make Deb happy :) oh and yes, i believe it's that model in the link. I tried the firmware update but it says i'm not running 9.1??? Have no idea where to get it, not sure I want it ;)
what OS are you running?
I think some OS updates are available from apple's site.
OS 9 blows hard. I disliked that sorry excuse for windows 3.1
It says 9.0. I've searched for this 9.1 update so I can run the firmware update but I can't find it :(
they should be here.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75288
I think you have to install in the order they suggest. Unlike OS X where you could do a combined update which is a bit of a pain.

I guess it's a good thing you didn't want another PC or he would have likely gotten you a 386.
