I was wondering if anyone had any information about distinctive rings and Windows XP? My son-in-law needs to use Winfax and he can't with his newer laptop because XP did not or does not support distinctive rings. Has anything changed recently?

Thanks,

A solution may be to buy a distinctive ring, ring detector, to place inline before their house phone, and computer. The ring detector splits the phone line into two, one line for the computer and one line for the house phone. This unit listens to the incoming rings before you hear them in you house and directs the proper ring directly to either to the computer or to the house phone.
This works for fax machines that do not have this ring detector built in; usually old fax units. I would have thought this day win fax would have this feature built in, but you’d still have to listen to all of the rings coming in on the house phone.
