Im planing on getting a 1989 Mustang LX. But dont know if i should get it because of the high gas prices and the car being a 5.0L it would really kill gas. But in a way insurance is cheaper than a civic or integra by a little.

I don't think an LX is a 5.0L

I think the 5.0L engine was offered as an option on the LX back then.

Wasn't aware of that option... I drive a 5.7L, I don't care about gas prices. I enjoy a well built vehicle. No way will I buy a "good on gas" POS because I want to save money on gas, cause I'll end up hating the vehicle.

Let's not go down that road again and keep this on the OP's topic:ngf:

Yes, there was a 5.0 LX mustank... lighter (and therefore faster) than a GT because it lacks all the extra bodywork they added onto it.

If you're under 25, I'd recommend you stay away from this, or any sporty car due to the amount the insurance companies extort for such cars.

only one thing I can say to help here.

check the floor, put it on a hoist and inspect it.
if you should find even the smallest hole leave it
were it stands.

ford knows about the rail rot ---- but never changed the designed.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder :p

Personally I don't care for the boxy shape of them, but many love it for that same reason... :vxd:

Dumping $10,000 (on top of the purchase price) into a 16 year old Mustang is a pretty silly idea.

That depends on what he wants to do with it. For 10 grand it could be a serious car.

That's why I specified "on top of the purchase price". :)

That depends on what he wants to do with it. For 10 grand it could be a serious car.I agree, however, I doubt he would be worried about gas prices or insurance in that case.

i know someone who spent 10g (car included) into a 5.0 and it runs 12sec in the 1/4mi, not bad if you ask me since people are buying 17sec civics with 100000km these days for 13g.
