"Charlie Demerijian at the Inquirer got a look at some insider specs on the PS3, and says, Sony screwed up big time with the Cell processor; the memory read speed on the current Devkits is something like 3 orders of magnitude slower than the write speed; and is unlikely to improve much before the ship date. The slide from Sony pictured in the article is priceless: 'Local Memory Read Speed ~16Mbps, No this isn't a Typo.' Demerjian says when the PS3 comes out a full year after the XBox360, it's still going to be inferior: 'Someone screwed up so badly it looks like it will relegate the console to second place behind the 360.'"

If correct, this is bad news. Couple that with reports that that some Blu Ray drive manufacturers are pushing back their ship date to AFTER the PS3 because they are still confident that their units will sell more even though they are more expensive than a PS3 because apparantly the PS3's Blu Ray reader is inferior to what standalones will be using and its movie playback really bad. Plus there are reports that MS will drop the price of the 360 just before the PS3 launch and Sony might be hurting pretty bad.

If you read some of the replies on that site, some of them suggest that this will make no difference and this is just all BS against Sony.

Think about it IF this was really a big problem like the article says it is then Sony would fix it right away. I think its just BS but we will see in Nov :)

Ciao

Oh yeah sony fixes things right away. How about when there was a problem with PS2s being defective, and they knew about the problem but they still decided to charge customers $100 anyway to fix it?

On this though im not sure how reliable the source is but ill try to read more about it.

im happy with my 360, and im going to wait and see what happens with the ps3, will defnitely not buy a first shipment.

and really, the only thing that would make me even think about buying a ps3, if namco finally decides not to screw over their american customers and puts tekken 6 and sc4 online

Well have any of you seen the ps3 in motion? I'm sure you have and it's still comparable to x360, well some of the games so far. Bottomline PS3 can push it just as much as the next guy but I would never buy it still because of price. Given sony's track record on releasing gaming hardware I'd wait and see before purchasing or preordering ps3.
