hi
i just connected my laptop to the internet again and updated my antivirus and firewall programs, and after couple of restarts for updating my antivirus detected that there is a virus in the computer named CLIPSVCHOSTLIP.COM, my firewall picked it up trying to connect to the internet and i blocked its connection, my antivirus failed to remove or qurantine it. after the next restart i get this message error message saying

"cannot find the file 'C:\Documents and Settings\..........\CLIPSVCHOSTLIP.COM(or one of its components). Make sure the path and the filename are correct and all the required libraries and available."

now every program i open i get the same message and wont be able to open anything at all, from a floppy to cd-rom, i cannot open any .exe files?
can anyone tell me if there is a way to fix this problem, i really need to run the quickbooks software from the laptop at work, any suggestions???????????
thx

What operating system are you using ? Can you boot into safe mode ? Or try a system restore.

Sounds like a manual clean up of the registry or maybe a reinstall of the os

Edit:
Crap you're too fast for me Taz.
I'll get out of here. :)
Running HJT would be a big help.

Yes . try to run an on-line scan
Disable your anti-virus real time monitor, while running on-line scan
Re-enable after scan complete.

You might not be able to run on-line scan though.
Post back.

Agreed Taz:
try the online scan and hi jack this 1st

Next here's tool to restore reg edit and exe:

Tool to reset shell\open\command registry keys
if the \exefile\shell\open\command key is changed, the threat will run each time that you run any .exe file. This may also stop you from running the Registry Editor to try to fix this.

They may also change a registry value so that you cannot run the Registry Editor at all.

Symantec Security Response has created a tool to reset these registry values to their default settings.
