I recently bought a new FX5200 128 MB from MSI for my server, P3 1 Ghz. Anyways I used to have an ati radeon 8500 64MB in there and I decided to upgrade the HDD and VC. I put in the new card, but it wont post - no display no nothing no beeps. Before I return it, any ideas on troubleshooting?

Are the ATI drivers COMPLETELY gone (Using an Driver Cleaner)?

If their gone and nVidia Drivers are installed, then it must be an defective videocard.

where would i get such a driver cleaner? and would that matter at all, because the pc wont post with the fx5200 in it, but with the radeon it does just fine.

It's possible the MSI card doesn't support AGP 2X, as it is very outdated.

OR

The video card might be dead.

Or

You knocked some connection in your motherboard and it won't boot.

You can try testing your MSI vid card in another system to see if it works, plugging your radeon back in to see if you knocked anything loose.

That card will not run in an AGP slot which doesn't support 4x - it's a voltage issue. You might have done damage to the motherboard and /or video card. This is why research before making a purchase is extremely important.

On a slightly unrelated note - why on earth would anyone want to upgrade the VGA card on a server?! The Radeon 8500 is much better anyway.

the mobo's fine, cuz i tested it with the radeon again. so its either a bad card or it doesnt support 2x

Return it while you still can - there is no point of downgrading.

FX5200 = Gf 4MX performance at best.

I need something for video editing. Im returning it tomorrow, thanks AMD.
PS - is the Radeon 9250 any different?

For video editing you need a TV capture card. AIW ATI video card is the only other option - and it's more expensive. (if analog input is required)

9250 is ATI's version of pretty much the same thing - low end card which is worse than what you have right now.
