My motherboard supports UltraDMA 133/100. But I wanted to buy a SATA hard drive as a slave, is this possible? Thanks.

To use the SATA hard drive you would have to buy a SATA adapter that plugs into a PCI slot. This will then have the required SATA ports that you can plug a SATA hard drive into.

There is no benefit of going for SATA unless a much more expensive, high end drive is to be installed.

The bandwidth used by most hard drives is less than that of what even ATA100/133 offers.

On systems with an integrated SATA controller, it's a different story because the cost is similar. However, there is no point buying a device which requires a separate PCI card when there is little or no benefit. The more devices a computer has, the slower and less reliable it is.

IDE hard drives operate at UDMA 133 and below.

SATA hard drives are usually referred to as SATA 150 or SATA 300, which means have a theoretical maximum transfer speed of 1.5gbps or 3.0gbps. These are very theoretical and these speeds are never reached due to the physical limitation of hard drives today.
