K, I've been on the AMD bus for quite a while now (1999) but I have an oportunity to try out some Yonah overclocking.
I've heard good things about performance results.... I'll keep you guys posted on results.

The new Conroe stuff looks amazing. Might finally be a reason for me to upgrade, and ditch A64.

I might build a second system with a Yonah processor... possibly a home theatre box. I found an amazing Aopen case that would be perfect too... I ain't giving up my AMD anytime soon. :)

K, here are a few teasers for you guys... I don't know how this chip will run or how long it'll be before I can fire it up...

Still some glitches but into the testing phase.

Still going to be a bit before i think about intel again.
The cpu may be faster but its still got the same issues it had with the older duel core, two cpu's strapped together instead of being made that way from the start.
Amd is still way ahead in the mem transfer area between the two cores.

Well, I finally worked out all the bugs on this system and overall I'm pretty impressed with the speed for surfing and basic internet stuff. Other than the power supply and one small 70mm fan the system is completely silent. The cpu fan doesn't even run unless I really work the processor. This will make a great home theatre box.

Hmmm... Something just doesn't look right with that picture... :tch:
Where's the ram??

hehe, you aren't missing anything. :) The board has two SO-DIMM DDR2 RAM slots on the underside of the board!! The board has all kinds of weird stuff on it since its a Intel CRB... and nop, I can't say where I got it. :)

lbjgh (http://thecomputermechanics.com/forums/member.php?u=483) - man I am disappointed, thought you'd be AMD for life like myself. But I can't blame you, am also hearing good things about the Conroe coming out. My buddy is trying to build a new system and he is thinking to switch to the conroe as well.
My rig is awesome, I still haven't done anything to kick it in the but. I am a multitasker but I havent' been able to take my computer to the limit. x2 + 2gb ram = one huge mofo. I was able to play BF2 while running vmware images... I am completely impressed, don't see myself upgrading anytime soon... maybe the monitor could use a bigger one. 19' lcd isn't cutting it for what I can do with this computer. AMD RULEZZZ:)

Hey, my primary system will continue to be an AMD, this new setup is basically for surfing, e-mail and other light duties... perhaps I'll move my home theatre setup to run off it since it does have a dual core processor and 2mb L2 cache.
It is nice not having fans running while this system is operational.
yeah I got to build me an HTPC soon, when i get my own place, i'll have one. very convenient. hah I am gonna have the nerd house :P

Well after some teething pain I finally got the system up and running smoothly. I've very impressed with the setup. The system is completely silent... other that a very quiet PSU fan.
This is a great surfing rig... silent an all.

I prefer Intel myself

For the last five years or so I've had a preference for AMD, I think I was one of the first people here at TCM to really go to bat for AMD. I haven't given up on my favorite... just had an opportunity to try something different.
I prefer Intel myself

Check then out the Core duo 2's look awsome..
I thinkg on a e6600 chip, all the benches show it keeps up or beats the X 62 AMD..
What do you think??

My friend got the Core 2 E6400 , which is not even the high end as you all know, but man my jaw hi the floor, it is a beast , and i am not exagerating, it is a speed demon from hell...very stable and quiet. I am saving up for one! The multitasking capabilities on this thing is INSANE!
Just bumped Les up to the E6600 :)
AMD X2 4400+ FTW!! :) .. stability and performance 'IM LOVIN IT'

What's hilarious is shortly after Core 2 Duo is released, quad-core is already on the horizon for Q1 2007 possibly Q4 2006!!! CRAZY!

Yeah, Toms Hardware posted a preview of Quad Core using some engineering sample.
The benchmarks are amazing for programs that can utilize multiple cores.

I have no need to upgrade to a new processor... my current yonah is a great "office" pc and my AMD X2 is my gaming rig complete with an old style AGP video card... It plays all current games perfectly.
