Repair feature.. (works for 5. and higher)
Start.... Settings..... Control Panel.... Add/Remove Programs...
find "Microsoft Internet Explorer 5?x and Internet Tools." then Change/Remove.
You will get a few options... Remove... Add Components... Select Repair Internet Explorer, and click OK.
Click "yes" when asked do you want to repair it...
You will be prompted to restart your computer...
If IE doesn't appear in the Add/Remove Programs list, you can start it manually from the command line:
Start... Run... cmd.exe
Type the following command:
rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE5Maintenance "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Setup\SETUP.EXE" /g "C:\WINDOWS\IE Uninstall Log.Txt"
Follow the prompts...
Just a note this command is case sensitive and you need the "
WinME...
It seems that the repair feature is not available with WinMe..

You could try this..
Start ... Run... Cut and paste this command
rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE5Maintenance "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Setup\SETUP.EXE" /g "C:\WINDOWS\IE Uninstall Log.Txt"
Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Information/Tools/Internet Explorer Repair Tool
If a repair feature is not available after try all that..
You can run the reinstall of the latest downloaded version of IE by:
Going into My Computer/ C drive (or whatever drive the OS is on) Look for the folder called: "Windows Update Setup Files" Open this folder and look for the IE setup.exe and run it.
WinXP
Using the System File Checker is probably the easest way...
Start... Run type sfc /scannow .... OK
Note that you need the WinXP installation CD
