I read an article about auto insert notification (auto run)
It had an interesting point.. It seems when the auto run is turned the system polls the cd rom drive(s)continuously to see if there is media there, doing this can create problems with burning or with playing some games. They suggest this setting should be disabled...
For Win2K and XP you need be logged on as the administrator...
Settings will not take effect till you reboot
For WinXP Pro....
Start... Run... type "gpedit.msc"
Computer Config... Administrative Template.... System... Double click Turn off Autoplay...Enable it.
Note... this is to disable autoplay, so make sure this isn't already ticked.
For WinXP Home it is a registry edit...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Cdrom.
Look for the autorun. It will have a value of 1 or 0
1 is to enable autorun... 0 is to disable autorun.
Win2K
Start..... Run ... type "regedit" ... Click ok,
Click on the following....
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE... SYSTEM ... CurrentControlSet.... Services... Cdrom ... Autorun.
Doubleclick on it, and set the desired value, "0" for disabled and "1" for enabled.
Win98/Me
Control Panel....System....Cd Rom..."CD-Drive" select "Settings" Uncheck "Auto Insert Notification"
Or use the Registry Entry...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE... SYSTEM ... CurrentControlSet.... Services... Cdrom ... Autorun.
Doubleclick on it, and set the desired value, "0" for disabled and "1" for enabled.
Win95 ... Registry Entry as above
If you are going to mess with the registry .. Its a good idea to back it up first. :)
