View Full Version : Replace Harddrive
Can I move C:/ harddrive to D:/ and install a bigger harddrive in C:/, then install all the basics (windows/office etc) in the new C:/ drive. Can I then copy programs from the old C:/ drive now D:/ to the new C:/ drive, I then want to format the old C:/ drive and use it as back-up/storage. I want to reinstall windows XP pro and office XP standard (I have the disks) since there is a lot junk stored in the comp.
Thanks

You can use software to transfer all the contents of your current C drive to the new drive but the "junk" will come with it. You can't "copy" programs selectively from one HD to another because most programs generate registry settings in Windows. But you certainly can copy data files.

you can use an image program like norton ghost then put the new
drive in and restore the system.
as mentioned you can't just copy programs over.
