View Full Version : looking for a good siamese breeder
We're thinking of getting another siamese kitten, I've found the few breeders here avaible via google, but we are more interested in the 'traditional' breed (aka 'applehead') than the moderns. Anyone know of good ones in or near GTA?

Had to look it up.
Wow, some of those "moderns" have gone to extremes
yea, we have a traditional now, and I don't care much for the the 'modern' ones.

Had a pair many years ago.
Guess they'd be called traditional now.
Hadn't realized they'd gone to such extremes in "modern"
You realize that 2 means twice as many plants knocked over? :)
I did a search through the Canadian Cat Fanciers and found only one breeder listed in Ontario.
http://www.marlcreekcattery.com/
They apparently have Ragdolls and Siamese (pics appear to indicated the traditional siamese) and I saw one 11 week old male Flame point available (assuming the site is up to date)

I was quite surprised that there werent more listings for Siamese. Also might have a bit of a problem because of the time of year..for babies.
Good luck.. and we will need pictures of the new arrival. :)
thanks for the link. I'll look into them as they're not too too far. They look like they have traditional siamese.
We're thinking about september anyways so we're not in a rush, as house renos will be hopefully about done by then.
We let our cats have the run of the place anyways so no big deal with plants.
Currently we have a blue point traditional about 9 years old. Very demanding little one.

Male or female?
I had a male seal point back in the 80's and he could be a handful at times. He slowed down as he got older though. He lived until the ripe old age of 17 and I had to have him put down when he developed liver disease :(
female. Will consider another male later. Current is female.
yes they are a handful they're not for everyone. This one, and my last one were rescues from people who couldn't deal with them. If you think a 'normal' siamese is a handful, try a rescue that has been abused. The first one took months before she stopped attacking unpredictably. That was really fun.
But the most affectionate cat I've ever seen afterwards. She went at 10 yrs from renal failure. That was heartwrenching.

I got mine when he has about 8 months old. He was somewhat aggressive at first, but siamese cats are known to be like that. They are very territorial and protective of their turf (more so than other breeds of cats I've had).
Having said that, they are wonderful cats once they become acclimatized to their environment, and will give you lots of love in return for your affection. Their instincts are superb.
Just don't piss them off lol.

Welcome.
With any reputable breeder you have to apply, qualify and sometimes jump through other hoops, even if it's in the future it's good to contact some breeders and sometimes they will refer you to other breeders if they dont have what you are looking for. Many take reservations on litters that arent born yet.
I found one fantastic breeder over the internet six years ago when I had just lost my other cat. I was lucky the kittens were home raised, very socialized and their dispositions were amazingly sweet and still are.
Good luck..and dont forget the pics! :d

:d
Persians are sweet, but it's not the word that comes to mind with Siamese.
, :)
Handful,certainly
Mischievous, spitefull, vindictive, loud ..lol.
They'll look sweet, alright.
With those innocent baby blues staring at you... as you survey the wreckage.
Siamese are great fun, but you need patience.
They're certainly not for everyone.
You need a lot of time with them.
Excellent mousers too.
sweet would be the word if you met Eliza here. Depends on how they are brought up, and of course on the cat. If you don't give them enough attention, which is ALOT, that's when real trouble strikes...
kinda like, er, women. :)
:tcu:
contacted that breeder and apparently they have two brand new litters. Yikes.

You're in trouble now, you'll have to go up there and pick one. Pictures please.
it'll be a few weeks as apparently they are days old, the next litter is expected in a couple days. We want to have the renos done before, which is all done near end of august.

Oh boy.. hey how about two little bundles of joy? ;)
My breeder wouldnt let kittens go until they were at least 12 weeks, but well worth waiting for.
Go visit, if you're not hooked already! :d

What exactly is a ragdoll? It looks like a combination of a siamese and a persian (or other long haired cat) They sure are sweet, if I didn't have a houseful already......

I found this, kind of what you figured Lesley...
http://www.cfainc.org/breeds/profiles/ragdoll.html
Ragdolls were developed in the 1960’s by Ann Baker; a breeder in California. She bred Josephine, a loving, gentle, longhaired white female carrying Siamese markings, to other longhaired cats carrying Siamese markings. Her original stock consisted of sturdy, free-roaming cats. By selecting individuals with the look she wanted for her breeding program, she created the type standard for the Ragdoll.
*********
Apparently the Ragdoll got it's name from it's tendency to completely relax it's muscles and be limp while being handled. I also read they can get huge, upwards of 20lbs for a male. (my Persians range from just over 7lbs to 11lbs.)
Persians are sweet, but it's not the word that comes to mind with Siamese.

Oh I dunno about all Persians being sweet, before these ones I have now I had one, which I named Rocky I named him that because he was a feisty little guy, and would not hesitate to rip anyone's face off if they bothered him. Excluding me. :d
There are exceptions I suppose ;)

They sound like a great, albeit large, breed. Beautiful colours.
