About 2 weeks ago our best tomato plant was almost snapped right in half when a squirrel fell from the bird feeder above it.
We heard a noise and when we checked the tomato plant was almost broken right off about half way up and the top was touching the deck.
Just a small bit was holding it together so I grabbed my clear 3M duct tape and went to work. Straightened the plant out carefully and started my patch job (pic 2 below). Watered it well and put some extra support in to prop it up.
It has grown about 2 feet since then and is very healthy.
Thanks Red Green for your inspiration to do anything with duct tape!

Nice job Bogie.
I had to and am continuing building a contraption to support our two cherry tomato plants. They keep growing like there's no tomorrow.
I'm using sticks and tie wraps to hold them together in order to build my support "scaffold".

Good growing season this year, albeit a weird one. Our Lilac tree/bush, out front, only had one (1) bloom on it this year, but it has grown quite a bit. Our front entrance garden has grown so much that I'm surprised the condo corp hasn't complained (not supposed to have gardens - we're rebels! Beginning to feel like an South American rain forest!

You did a good job there Bogie... maters don't take too kindly to that type of damage..
As for your front garden; maybe that's why they haven't given you sod yet... they're expecting you to plant a garden there so they won't have to ;)

Ya gotta luv it! Of all the things I've seen duct tape used for (including the Red Green show) that is a first. Indeed, Red would be proud. Way to go Bogie!

Red Green's inspiration required again as branch grows too many tomatoes and almost breaks off!
Out comes the clear duct tape again and we repair the falling fruit-burdened branch. Along with a long metal rod and a tree branch crotch, and more duct tape, the plant is saved.

Had to take 3 pics on the cellphone camera to compose this shot. Too tall to take in one shot on a balcony!

Those might be real rib-stickin' tomatoes yet.

A note on the lilac bush. Local nursery here once told me that my lilac bush had to be "stressed" to get it to bloom real well.
Method suggested by them was: find the drip line around the tree. Take square nosed spade and push into ground along drip line to sever surface roots. Apparently this forces lilac bush from 'growth' mode into 'flowering' mode.
Did what they said to mine and next year had blooms galore. It may be a little late in the season for it but you might want to try it with yours.

Mater plant still growing to the clouds!
Needed more duct tape and raised supports.

Nice going there Bogie. My two plants were doing great until one of the storms kind of roughed them up and my contraption partially fell apart. Have given up on trying to re-support and now they are about as wide as they are tall.
But lots of littler Mater's are still growing.
