I just did a long road trip, 7K Km's in just two weeks, Edmonton to Chicago to Detroit to Toronto then back to Edmonton.
Anyways, I started out with a fresh oil change, the dip stick only shows that its gone down half way in that grey area, not even to the add more oil section and its appearance isn't too dark either. I'm used to changing oil after 5K Km's and when the car's computer says so as well and even its only at 36% oil life left. This is more of a comment on how well highway driving does for the engine then anything else.

Yes, steady highway crusing is allot easier on the engine than start and stop city driving.

But still with 7000 Km, it's a good time to change it... whether it looks like it needs it or not.
Really, it souldn't look dirty before you change it... if it is, your filter stopped working a long time ago ;)

I agree with Dan the oil can get thin and still look clean.
Time for a change.

I change my oil in my new 2006 civic every 9000 kms because I only do hwy driving most of the time. Its dealer recommended at this mileage.

Its going to get changed today, I've got the day off so might as well do it while I have the time.
