I was thinking of starting up a website about car reviews. I have a big obbession with cars I thought of maybe starting up a site. I was just wondering what is involved and what will I need. I live just outside toronto, and was wondering if I would require a server. I know a some information about computers, but nothing about websites. If I was too make this site, there would be sections, for articles, forums, and an area for an archive of video reviews. I was planing and buying a camcorder of some sort to feature video artiles on certain vehicles. Any advise or guidence would be appricated.

There is plenty of good software out there to build a great site, depending on how professional you want the site , you will have to read alot and experiment with software such as Dreamweaver, Flash and many others. If you have no experience then expect to put in plenty of time. There are many people on here that will willingly give you tips along the way, I know for me I had great advice from Tim, and Bogie.

What about as far as hardware needed, just my pc will be enough, do I have to get a server. I would like to keep this site as professional as I can, I would like to have the option later to sell advertising space if the oppurtunity arises from it.

There are companies out there that host your website. The cost depends on the amount of storage and data transfer and so on. Start out small and upgrade as needed.

In that case the "only" thing you would need is a PC and High Speed internet to upload and change you site files.

I guess you could host your own and then you will have to get the necessary hardware and transfer capacities. If your PC goes down, your site is down.

Do a search on Google like this one here for web site hosting

http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=website+hosting&btnG=Google+Search&meta=

You would also have to register a domain name like www.jorwlu.com which most hosting companies can do for you for a reasonable price.

Here is a good one to start (http://www.geeksnetwork.net/HG/) and Site Builder software comes with The Baby Plan (look at Shared Plans).

I'd be careful with Geeksnetwork though...

They might give you excellent service. :)
