I think the general consensus is that allowing for graphic sigs opens the door for large, distracting, sometimes gaudy sigs that detract from the content and eats bandwidth for what amounts to little good reason.

way to rain on my parade lol

i know that it eats bandwidth, if i didnt care about it i would have posted a huge fat one (they have those availiable) i chose something small because of that reason. if rules could be relaxed to allow for SMALL images and not large bandwidth eating ones ( i have been to sites with those so i understand where you are comming from on this) it would be nice...

something small and NOT distracting seems nice, BTW, I like yours. Better not for sake of those dialuppers. :)

Images used to be allowed in sigs a while back but some found it to distracting and some were very gaudy. And of course those limited to dial up suffered the most. You could send a PM to Les or Deb but I wouldn't hold your breath on it. If I remember correctly their was a great sigh of relief from the membership when images were no longer allowed in sigs

The Computer Mechanics Message Board Guidelines

The Computer Mechanics Message Board Guidelines

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The basic ground rules for discussions on The Computer Mechanics are simple: be polite, use common sense, and don't break the law. We don't intend to censor messages based on the opinions expressed within those posts, but we will enforce the policies outlined both here and on the Forum. We reserve the right to remove, modify or move posts at our discretion and without explanation. If you have any questions, please ask a administrator.

Below you will find a set of general forum guide lines. There will be forum-specific guidelines as well.

BIG RULE – Have Fun! That is why we are here!

Rule No. 1 - No "Flaming"
1) You will not post any messages that harass, insult, belittle, threaten or flame another member or guest.

Rule No. 2 - No "Trolling"
2) You will not post any topic that disrupts the peace and harmony of this forum. Don't create meaningless threads with the sole purpose of starting a dispute. This includes messages in profiles and signatures.

Rule No. 3 - No "Spamming"
3) You will not double post or cross-post the same message in multiple forums. You will not mass-PM or mass-email multiple members of this site the same message. You will not post for the sake of increasing your post count.

Rule No. 4 - No "Offensive" Posts, Links or Images
4) You will not post any messages that are obscene, vulgar, sexually-orientated, hateful, threatening, racist, sexist, discriminatory, or otherwise violative of any local or international laws. This includes links in your signature, profile, bookmarks as well as posted images, photos and avatars. Mods and Administrators will ultimately decide if something is appropriate or not.

Rule No. 5 - No Self-Promotion
5) You will not post any messages anywhere on this site that are primarily for the promotion or advertising of any website, forums, email address, business, MLM, activity, or other entities that you have an affiliation with (ie. no self-promotion). Exception, Self-Promotion links will be allowed in your signature.

Rule No. 6 - No Public Posting of Copyright Material
6) You will not upload, attach or post anything that is copyright or licensed. For example, you cannot upload or attach full copies of material. Partial code referenced is allowed, as long as it is not substantial and a link back to the source- this will be decided by the staff.

Rule No. 7 - Signature Restrictions
7) Signature's are limited .
All signatures should not exceed the following size limits:
Text signatures only: 5 lines normal size, 8 lines small size and up to 90 chars per line. Empty lines are also counted! Font sizes above 2 are not allowed.
You may have a link to your own website, but there must be no promotional language like "Best Hosting" or "Cheapest Styles". Pay pal and affiliate links are NOT permitted.

What happens if I break a rule?
The administrators and moderators of The Computer Mechanics have the right to remove, edit, move or close any thread or post, or suspend or ban any member for any breach of the rules or for any other reason with or without warning or notice.

What if I see a message posted that breaks a rule?
Please report these posts or threads to the administrator or moderator of the forum by clicking on the "Report" link at the bottom of the offending post or thread, and the post or thread will be reviewed and action taken as soon as possible.

What is my responsibility as a member?
Please keep these rules in mind when you post. The administrators and/or moderators have the right to change these rules at any time without notice. It is the responsibility of every member to remain updated with the current rules.

Why have rules in the first place?
The rules are there for the protection of the community as a whole and to prevent abuse, conflict and disharmony within the forums.

We take the these rules VERY seriously! We do not tolerate ANY rudeness. Any member who is intentionally unpleasant or disruptive will receive one warning (at our discretion), and if the member offends again the member will be banned without warning.

Finally, any abuse toward our staff and/or management will result in immediate suspension of your account.

Thank you!

Look for an official posting buy Deb/Les soon.

Just post it at the bottom of any post you do that it's relavent to..

Your gamer card is of no use to me or most people on this board.. only to those that follow the gaming room forum..
So why should we all have to see it every time you post?
I think a link to it in your sig is good... then anyone that WANTS to see it can click it... the rest of us don't.

I for one am very happy that they don't allow pics in sigs... I see way too much of it on other boards and I'm happy that I don't have to see it here too :)

No rule change please :bsu:

I think I've seen a function in the vB controls that restricts a person's sig to post only once in a thread they participate in.

I don't mind the sigs myself although on 800x640 some show up with 8 lines or so.
*cough*Mindfield*cough* ;)

I remember the graphic in sig discussions and still agree with the decision made not to allow them.

Smilies look good in a sig though.

What actually happened was that signatures were allowed, but a certain percentage of the membership decided to ignore the restrictions and it all got way out of hand. The restrictions couldnt be board designated, so there were guidelines set and much controversy and arguing about what would be allowed (content wise) size of graphics and how many lines were taken up by text and on and on.

When it couldnt be resolved amicably, signatures were turned off, no signatures, no problems, arguments or headaches in enforcement.

I dont think it's an option to revisit allowing signatures.

As for dial-uppers, they probably have "sigs off" in their profile already. :)

Well, it was an idea, it's annoying that so much DOESNT work in firefox (like Amazon's many sites and Ebay).

nice to see that I got a good ammount of responses, normally my posts dont warrent so many...

as a result clicking the link on the image takes you to the xbox forums login page, so guest viewing of the card is somewhat USELESS and non existant. M$ needs to fix that... however I found a proper non logging in link which I will add after my system specs...
