Does anyone here STEAM their potatoes instead of boiling them?About how long does it take to steam four medium potatoes?

No idea, but steam would be at 212°F, sea level.

To me that would be the same temperature as boiling.

Anyone else???

Not faster than boiling but you don't lose as many nutrients into the water, the potato won't get soggy and if peeled is less likely to fall apart.

Steaming potatoes goes faster if you cut them into the size you would want to use for bite size home fries. Cut the potato in half and then into quarters. Takes maybe 20 - 30 minutes. I turn the heat down after the first initial boil and keep an eye on the water level because it can disappear fast.

My first feed gets mashed and the leftovers are ready for homefries.

I prefer steamed to boiled.

I saw this proceedure on the food network and wondered if it turned out preferable to boiling! Was also wondering about the time factor. Thanks for the answers..now the proof will be in the pudding!

We bought a steamer and use it all the time for rice, vegetables, potatoes, etc. Love it! You can put herbs and garlic in the bottom level and it steams right into the veggies at the top level.

I think it was at Fortino's. It's a 2 levels one with a special container for cooking rice.

Well I had the steamed potatoes tonight and doing them that way...they taste like real potatoes! I used the one by Paderno and, though it doesn't have a top pot on the double that has many holes all around, it worked really well.
