Total waste of money. How much are the Leafs going to pay for that penalty box bench warmer with no talent?

Wahoo ... hockey is back! Obvious by the discussions.

A mainstay of our Canadian culture is alive and well.

No, but we have Wade Belak and Nathan Perrott that can step in an be an enforcer if needed.

Don't get me wrong, I like Tie Domi, and respect that fact that he stayed in Toronto for less money, but maybe the money could have been used better. :)

I read somewhere that Domi's biggest "achievement" in his pro career is reaching the status of the having the 3rd most penalty minutes in history of the NHL. Maybe they should dock his pay when he's in the penalty box. After all, he's paid to play, not to sit. The Leafs could turn the money saved over to a worthwhile charity :)

Ya, that is the case....but he is paid to play that way...he's not a scorer, he's not a power play specialist...he is an enforcer...meant to protect the other players....and guess what he does :)

My apologies, was unaware that they were RFA's. :hsh:

If the NHL was serious about totally eliminating fighting and other cheap shots in the game, there would be no need for enforcers.

Unrealistic to say that......it is hockey right??

If fighting was taken out of hockey a lot of people wouldn't watch it...sadly there is cheap shots in hockey. Domi is paid too fight and that is what he does...I don't know if you caught Andre Roy on Sportsnet the night after he was signed by Pittsburg...you know what he said..."I know my role, I'm here to protect Lemiux and Sidney" ... it's on every team not just Toronto...

I don't think removing fighting would cause fewer people to watch. In fact, I'd bet the opposite is true. Fighting slows down the game to a crawl. You don't see goons playing in European leagues do you?. This is an NHL albatross.

You don't see fighting in football and yet people watch the NFL far more than they watch hockey. Both are contact sports and I would argue that football is a much more brutal contact sport, and yet, you see virtually no fighting in football.

Don't let the likes of Don Cherry brainwash you into thinking that fighting is "part of the game" :d

Nah, I think fighting is a big part of the game and makes it that much more fun too watch....if they take it out...hey, I'll still watch...I like the sport either way...the fact of the matter is...there is fighting in hockey and for that reason the Leafs need Domi on their team...plane and simple :)

No, there is fighting in NHL hockey. You don't see Europeans play that way. It's the way the kids here are brought up to think of how hockey should be played.

Then don't watch NHL hockey...go watch the Europeans play...simple as that... :)

I rarely watch regular season games and haven't since the league expanded beyond 12 teams. I only watch during the playoffs when each game means something to the teams and the players and the goonery is kept to a minimum :)

Tie may not be the most talented player on the team but I think he has the most heart. He pays 110% all the time unlike the high priced floaters. He is a great motivator also. He showed his love of his team by refusing to move. Toronto loves him and he in turn loves Toronto.

When he's on the ice and actually plays hockey, I agree. He does give it his all, and I also agree that he's a good guy. He's also given a lot of his time to charitable causes and hospital visits etc. and he is to be commended for that.

Lack of talent and character are two different things.

As a huge Leafs and Domi fan, I'm glad to see him back. He is a fiery leader. However, I agree about the Leafs getting it handed to them this year. Because of the new CBA, the Leafs went from one of the top 5 teams in the league, to quite possibly the worst team in the NHL. :( Sad but true. Going to be a rough winter for the Blue and White, but next year will be better. Lots of money and free agents next summer.
