I have a shockwave flash file with a file extension of .swf. How can I get a program that will open and play this animation?

I downloaded a couple of flash players but none of them show up in the OPEN WITH FILE when I right click the animation file.

Thanks.

You have two choices. Right click and choose open with. Then click the browse button and you have to browse to the exe file used to open the shockwave program you installed.

Second option is to open the shockwave program, it should open a window. Then just select and drag the file you want to play into the program window and release it. The shockwave program should try to open the file and play it.

I installed Adobe Shockwave Player ... and it is not in the Program Files nor anywhere I can find it??? Of course it does not showup up as one of the programs in the OPEN WITH list? This is puzzling?

It's not unusual for a new program to not show up in your 'open with' list.
If Shockwave is installed, you should be able to just open the file and it'll play
Shockwave is a plug-in to your browser, so it'll open a browser window to play..

Have you tried installing it again and rebooting (or at least log out and back in to your account) afterwards?

OK I have it figured out. The Adobe Shockwave Player downloads only as a browser plugin. So in my case I have to OPEN WITH firefox ... I don't know if there is a way to run the application?

I always thought shockwave was a part of flash player.
years ago it was. or am I mistaken.

I searched for "stand alone Shockwave Player" in Google and came up with this..

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/WEB-Design/Flash/Flash-Movie-Player.shtml

http://www.pcworld.com/article/57988-4/article.html# <-- just interesting info.

What's that supposed to link to Ken? That's just Adobe's home page.. :rrg:

I didn't see any stand alone player there when I was looking...

it was just me confirming what I said before DAN.
I was unsure if I was correct.

Oh, it's related to your previous post... sorry, I didn't realize..

Yes, Flash and Shockwave Flash are both Macromedia products... now owned by Adobe..

Thanks for the info everyone! I downloaded the standalone flash player as well.
I assumed the Adbobe shock player was standalone ... but was wrong.
