has apparantly bitten the dust. I cannot access the internet now. It just "send" & doesn't "receive". Verified with Rogers tech support it's not a service issue. I did a few things like change the ethernet cable, power cycled the modem, check for loose connections, etc.
A co-worker advised that i could buy a new network card & install it on the MB & just deactivate the original one by taking it off the network listing. Is it that easy? Or is there more to it? I have no idea, but hoping i don't have to invest in a new MB.

It should be that easy.

It's one step more complicated. You will need to do into the system BIOS (a special board level tool) and disable the existing ethernet controller, even if it's fried. If there is a manual to the motherboard, it would likely explain those steps.

Then install the new ethernet card, re-boot and the rest should be a walk-through. Do you use a direct connection via Rogers or Sympatico?

As already pointed out,
Install NIC (Network Interface Card),
Disable onboard LAN via the CMOS/BIOS menu,
Install necessary driver for NIC, if required.

Thanks all, i've had no access till back here at work. I may still have the manual, but if not, once in the bios, would it be obvious to me what to do?
Also, to answer amother question, yes direct connection with Rogers, just click on IE logo & i'm in.
