I just moved and have adsl with nexicom now....never used dial up ever.I get not bad speeds but need to know what or if anything i need to do for my router (netgear wgr614 v4) to work with utorrent. The speeds are not the greatest with utorrent but it flies on the internet....almost and sometimes even faster than rogers highspeed i had lmao.So if anyone can help this poor retard out who has always had highspeed internet ...i'd thank yah kindly .
Thanks :)
First day and baby steps with this new way of life lol.Gotta love the country thou.

ADSL is broadband (not dial-up) just like your old Rogers was... may be faster; may be slower... only speed tests will prove that for sure ;)
You set up your router just the same as you did before... port forwarding is still the same
Set the port you want to use in utorrent... set the router for the same port and have it directed to the IP address of your computer

Okay , duh...i assumed that because it hooked up through the phone line it was still dial up.Thanks for clearing that up for me.Told yah I know nothing unless it comes from a cable hookup lmao.....oh well...learn something new everyday.
Thanks again.

Okay everything is setup and working....seems a wee bit slower than when i started out.I am on turbo adsl which is supposed to be 5mb download. They state probably more near 3 though....on utorrent i am crawling at 30kb/s from the 80 i was getting earlier....seems odd.must be s tweak somewhere i missed.

Some torroents are just slow... and should never be used to 'gauge' your connection speed..
Shut off uTorrrent and anything else that connects to the internet and do a speed test... then we'll have a better idea of what you really have to work with..

You can try this one here too. It's on Rogers but still should work.

Enter a letter or number for session ID and start the speed check.

yah thats odd...cause they have different types of hookup....starting at light...1mb /then theres 3 mb and then turbo which is $50 a month for 5mb.
I think i got screwed....again.Funny thing too it keeps disconnecting...i need to find that tweek so when using utorrent it doesnt cause too many connections and disconnect. Will be speaking with them tomorrow....not too happy.Surfing the net is great...sites come up nice and fast....dl speed for anything else sucks thou.

Also you have to open whatever ports Utorrent is using. Lower the number of connections in the software under options>prefer...> Bittorent
Lower it to half of what it is for global and everything else and see if your router crashes.
Personally I would recommend trying the modem out by itself plugged directly into the computer...without any routers and such and make sure you are getting the speeds you are paying for.

Ok chevy, there's a worm going around that is crashing the internet. It was happening to me also up until yesterday when I ran this patch.
Make sure to update your Windows XP also.
