I never use any of that 'retail' stuff... it's so weak that it doesn't really do much..

The professional stuff (that you can't buy off the shelf) does work well for cleaning everything.
This should be done once every year or 2

There's lots of cleaners in our fuel today, so it's not too big a deal... it takes a long time to get 'dirty' injectors, unless the car sits allot

The professional stuff, is this just a bottle and they put in your fuel or is it something they hookup to the car? Also how much would something like this cost??

Thanks

There's a can that gets added to the fuel, a can that gets run directly through the injectors, and they also run another can through the intake system.

It takes about a couple hours to do the whole job, plus the product... I don't know the current pricing, but I'd expect it to be around $200 for the full service.

Here's a write up on one called Motorvac, but there are others that do the same thing
http://www.theautochannel.com/mania/repair/motorvac.html

That will give you a good idea of what and how it's done ;)

Very good read, seems like those off the shelf bottles are almost usless lol. I had heard about this motorvac before but never really knew much about it. Seems like it would be a good idea to do this then waste money on other bottles and such.

Thanks for the info, Dr.Dan :)

Most of the stuff is a high percentage of naptha and clear oil (this is a statement for all of the fuel additives, oil additives are a diifferent mixture of ingredients but again, basically all the same). When in the gas tank, it mixes with gas and well, mixes with the gas.
They are generally a proprietory mixture but if you go to the company's website and look for the MSDS (material data safety sheet) you will find a list of all the ingredients that make up the product, not neccesarily the exact quantities because that is proprietorty portion, but they must list the ingredients and then you can make up your mind whether there area any miracles in the bottle.
Also, I do not know which part of a fuel system would require lubrication if in fact it was lubricating it? The inside of the fuel tubes? The fuel pump is lubricated by the fuel itself (without additives) and, the injectors are electrically operated plungers (for simplicity sake).
The best part of these liquid injector cleaners/fuel system cleaner/fuel milage improver/engine cleaners is the advertising campaigns. The US Government Consumer advocates and NHTSA has successfuly sued some of the companies and their inacurate claims (remember Z-Max....not around anymore)

I mostly use Redline SI-1 Complete Fuel System Cleaner and ACDelco Carburetor Tune-Up Conditioner. Both of them works for me
