number of partitions

I have a 120 gig maxtor drive and there are currently 4 partitions there is almost 80 gig unused but i cant allocate it I get maximum amount of partitions error ? winxp pro and 2000 pro Ive tried fdisk and windows installation but it wont allow me to use the area

I think you will have to make an extended partition. You may have to remove one of your current partitions because if I remember correctly you have to have one primary partition to encapsulate your extended ones.
