access and excel database

hey everyone
just trying to update a access database in a website that was created by someone else..
its a book store website and u can search to find the book ur looking for, either by title, ISBN, auther etc..., and the search functions looks through a access database to find the results, now the only thing i want to do is to update this database cause of price changes and more books, now the way it used to work was that my boss would send the updated excel file to the webmaster and the webmaster would just update it right away, does anyone know how he did it so quickly and not instead of me going through all 3000 books to change their prices one by one?

If your boss sent an excel file to the webmaster, the webmaster simply converted the data into a database file and imported it to the access DB on the web site.

I would ask your webmaster to create a web based utility to allow your boss or you to do all this live on the site. I have a client that has the exact same setup. He owns Canadian's largest used bookstore and updates his inventory and prices throughout the day. I created a web based interface so he can do this all day and have the changes reflect live on the site.

yes the webmaster simply imported the excel database, but when i try doing that not all of my data goes through because the title column has a limit of 50 characters and on the new excel file i have some titles with greater characters, so i can either make all those 50 characters or if there is a way to higher the character limit, i did go to tools and change it to 100 but i still get the error msg, is there some kind of lock thats not allowing me to change the character limit in that particular access file?

and my boss has lost contact with the webmaster, but how can we set up a live update database?
